How to Wear Emerald: Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Pantone’s Color of the Year is an ongoing tradition that introduces and highlights a hue every year. For 2013, this color is emerald. Emerald is a color that you don’t usually see; however, when you do, it is loud and absolutely STUNNING!

Emerald can be seen on a plethora of things, from desk accessories to beautiful gowns. When I think of emerald, I think of some fabulous Oscar gown being sported by some gorgeous celebrity. (Am I the only one that thinks that?) Below are some great examples and descriptions of some items that perfectly encapsulate this wonderful color.

This colorblock shirt is the perfect combination with this light blue and the emerald. At the end of 2012, there was a fashion splurge with colorblocking, making this an extremely trendy piece. You get the best of both worlds: emerald and colorblocking!

This bracelet is not completely emerald, which adds to the uniqueness of the piece. It gives an old fashioned vibe—almost a 1920s fashion vibe. This bracelet is very classy and is a statement piece that can be worn with a variety of outfits, due to the number of colors within the piece.

Moving away from the fashion, these Moleskine notebooks are absolutely wonderful. The bindings are beautifully stitched, and the notebooks come in almost every size imaginable. While they come in almost every color, the notebook looks best in this emerald color. This notebook is definitely worth the investment.

Emerald is a daring, interesting color that is often overlooked. Having it as 2013’s color of the year will be interesting, as I’m sure that people will come up with great combinations and usages of this beautiful color.
