How To Survive Your Next Snow Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

A few weeks ago, students at American University were treated to their first snow day of the year. Or, rather, days, since they were given a four-day weekend for the snow, including two days off from school and an early dismissal before the snowstorm officially hit the District of Columbia. Although everyone at AU was excited to be able to play in more than two feet of snow, toward the end of the snow break most students became victims of cabin fever. With the aid of Netflix, naps and, oh yeah, homework, the students of AU survived, but here are some ideas to get you through the next D.C. snow day.

1. Make a fun recipe! Although most students don’t have baking supplies handy in their dorm rooms, use what materials you have to cook something yummy with friends! If you don’t have all of the ingredients, ask around to see if any of your friends are willing to part with them, and then share the recipe when it’s done. These easy three-ingredient recipes are a great starting point to find something delicious to get you through your snow day.

2. Get crafty! A snow day is a great time to get creative. During the week, there’s work, class and clubs to occupy your time, but a day off gives you the perfect opportunity to do some fun activities. Most students don’t put crafting supplies on their college packing list, but you can use materials from around your room to make crafts to help you get organized. You can also find coloring book pages online to enjoy some calming, stress-free time!

3. Have a movie night! Invite some friends over and watch a movie together! Pop some popcorn and tell everyone to wear their cozy pajamas, and put on a fun movie. A snow day is a perfect time to see friends that you don’t normally see during the week!

4. Read a book! A snow day is the perfect opportunity to pick up a short novel that you wouldn’t have time to read during the week. Curl up with a blanket and a cup of tea or cocoa, and feel free to lose yourself in another world!

5. Get outside! The possibility of being stuck on campus is very likely on a snow day in D.C., but if you can’t get into the city, get outside and play in the snow with some friends! Make sure you’re bundled up before going outside and having a snowball fight or building a snowman. You can do homework any day, but take full advantage of your next snow day and don’t become a victim of cabin fever!
