How to Be a Hepburn in a Hilton World

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

This January, I decided to make one of my resolutions to read more. I know what you’re thinking, as a college student, we do a lot of reading! Frankly, sometimes the amount of reading in a course can be daunting. But I’m not talking about textbooks, I’m talking about reading for fun. This can be a foreign concept to collegiettes loaded down with heavy textbooks. However, after a day of classes, it’s nice to curl up in bed with a fun read.

Most recently, I read How To Be a Hepburn in a Hilton World by Jordan Christy. I know you aren’t supposed to judge a book by its cover but how could a girl not immediately want to read a book decked out in Tiffany blue with a little black dress ensemble?! This book was a fun, quick read (I finished it in 3 nights of reading) and instructed girls on how to dress, how to act, how not to take a spectacle of yourself when it comes to guys and even gave makeup application tips.

Christy argues how Hollywood and the media have glorified the Paris Hiltons and Lindsay Lohans, arguably not the best role models for young girls, instead of the “good girls” like Reese Witherspoon and Anne Hathaway. Through this book, Christy has taken it upon herself to instruct the younger generations on how to be more like the icon of style and class, Audrey Hepburn. With cute little quizzes and real-world advice, Christy demonstrates how to apply Audrey’s style into our everyday lives.

To be honest, a lot of what this book says is fairly obvious but it was still a light, fun read before bed. After poring through pages upon pages of dry, scholarly materials all day, collegiettes deserve a cutesy book to read. Think of it as a reality tv show for the brain! If you’re already compiling a list of books to read this summer or even on the quad when the sun is shining, I’d recommend putting How to Be a Hepburn in a Hilton World on the list.
