Hair is one of our greatest beauty tools. We love to deep condition it, straighten and curl it, braid it, topknot it (is that a verb?), and do just about anything to it to make us feel gorgeous. For the spring, I’ve noticed college girls are lightening their hair to welcome the warmer weather. When I came back to campus after my week of tranquility, also known as spring break, I noticed lightened locks on a sea of girls. Whether it is a touch of ombré at the tips, all over highlights, or a fresh cut, hair is one of the easiest ways to revive your look for a new season. Now I am no hair-dying authority, but I recently tried my hand at getting highlights done. I wasn’t sure what my intention was at first. I didn’t know if I wanted drastic ombré highlights seen here on Khloe Kardashian, or a subtler look seen here on Jessica Biel.
Since I had my mom with me, she guided the colorist toward an even subtler amount of ombrĂ©. I came out of my appointment with a fresh cut and light brown highlights on the bottom half of my hair to complement my dark brown locks. Overall I was pleased with my “baby’s first highlights” which I called them. It’s a tiny change to my every-day look that gives me a little boost every time I see the light brown strands shining in the sun. Whether or not you’re considering highlights or the ombrĂ© style for the spring, just know that as long as you guide your colorist, you won’t look like this.Â
