Halloween Happenings Around AU and DC

It’s Halloween season! Break out your costume and your Halloween spirit and check out these awesome events at American University and around DC:

AU Halloween Events

Delta Kappa Alpha’s “Mckinley’s Mansion”

When: October 29, at 7 p.m.

Where: SOC Building

What: Join DKA for a spooky search throughout the SOC building! Check out their Facebook event here.

Fright Night!

When: October 31, 9 p.m.

Where: The Tunnel

What: Check out the tunnel on Halloween night; it’ll be closed down and will be full of a lot of cool things, like a caricature artist! Come in costume and you may win a prize! Facebook event here.

Her Campus AU’s Costume Contest

What: Submit a photo of you in costume to Her Campus AU and win an awesome giveaway if you have the best one! Check out our social media closer to Halloween for more details!

Halloween Happenings around DC

Embassy Row Trick or Treating

When: October 30, all day

Where: Designated embassies on Embassy Row (Mass. Ave)

What: Go trick or treating along Embassy Row! Some embassies will even let you in! Just know that not all embassies participate and might turn you away. However, it’s totally worth going just to see all the beautiful embassies.

Boo at the Zoo

When: October 23-25 5:30 – 8 p.m

Where: The National Zoo

What: While this is a bit more family oriented for young children, it will still be fun! There will be treats and animal shows and even a hay maze! It’s a little bit on the pricey side, however, costing $20 for members and $30 for non-members. Information here.

Night of the Living Zoo

When: October 30, 6:30 p.m. – 10 p.m

Where: The National Zoo

What: This is an adult-only event. Again, it’s a bit on the pricey side at $20 for members and $30 for non-members. There will be food, music, live demonstrations and a costume contest! More information here.

Pumpkin Picking in DC

Unfortunately, there aren’t really pumpkin patches in DC, but there are a lot of great places around DC! Get a Zip Car with your friends one afternoon and check out these locations in Maryland and Virginia: Butler’s Orchard (it even has a pumpkin picking festival, so check out times for that!), Homestead Farm and Larriland Farms (Another pumpkin festival!).

Rocky Horror Picture Show

Don’t forget to dress up and see this classic this Halloween season! It can be seen at select theatres all across DC, so look up some times and don’t miss out!

Date Night on the Potomac: Hocus Pocus

Where: The National Harbor

When: October 29, 7 p.m

What: Bundle up, bring a date and watch the Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus! Bring a blanket, some hot chocolate in a thermos and enjoy! Facebook event here.

The Mexican Embassy Day of the Dead Party

When: October 30, 8:15 p.m

Where: The Mexican Embassy

What: Dress up in your finest masquerade attire and attend a party at the Mexican Embassy which will feature dancing, cultural demonstrations, a tour, a masquerade contest and amazing food! Beware though: tickets are getting pretty expensive so buy them soon!
