It’s a new semester! And as fall rolls in, you might be thinking about making a drastic change. For the new students, freshman year means you’re in search of new experiences and ready to take risks. Whether you want a new wardrobe or an edgy haircut, don’t weigh the pros and cons or think about other’s opinions of your change-up. Just do you. It’s your life!

This summer, I popped a Miley. That’s right: I got a pixie cut. I was tired of my mid-length and wanted something different. Admittedly, at first I was anxious about my new ‘do. What if it didn’t look exactly like the pictures I brought with me to the stylist? What if my forehead draws attention away from my hair?

All my pre-cut jitters were ridiculous. I realized it’s just hair. We often get caught up in how our looks are judged by others. Quit over-thinking! In the end, most people will love your change, especially your friends. Added bonus: all the compliments boost up your confidence levels.

The same mindset applies to trying new trends. Have fun; don’t stress about a new look. Don’t shy away from a piece simply because you don’t see a lot of people around wearing it. And stop that little voice in your head that’s saying, “It only looks good on some people!” We let our doubts control us too much.

So, get the haircut. Search around for the best tattoo or piercing shop. Buy the fedora and the harem pants. Whatever it is, don’t think about it too much. Odds are you’ll love the change – and others will too. Your time in college is about taking chances.
