Five Things that NEED to Happen Before The Good Wife Ends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

CBS announced that Season 7 will be the final season of hit legal drama “The Good Wife” during a promo aired during the Super Bowl. The last episode airs on May 8, and while I’m sure the remaining episodes will be full of drama (the Kings never disappoint), here are a few things that need to happen before we say goodbye to Alicia Florrick forever.

1. First and foremost, Alicia needs to leave Peter

From the very beginning of this series, Peter has done nothing but hurt Alicia, from cheating on her in a very public affair to forcing her to resign as State’s Attorney. As Alicia’s relationship with investigator Jason heats up and the FBI starts an investigation into Peter’s vote rigging, it seems the series is headed this way (Ruth pretty much told Alicia she needs to divorce him ASAP.) I’d love to see Peter at a podium giving a speech and looking to Alicia to come stand by his side, mirroring the pilot episode (and all the other times Peter has needed Alicia for his public image), but instead she stares him dead in the eye and walks away. Then maybe she and Jason will end up happily ever after, or maybe Alicia will end up on her own because she really is a strong independent woman who don’t need no man.

2. A Jackie and Howard wedding

Jackie and Howard definitely are not anyone’s favorite characters but it’s kind of sweet that they fell in love. With all of the bummers this season, a good ol’ fashioned happy wedding episode would be sure to lighten things up.

3. A happy ending for Cary

Cary is so talented and genuinely good despite the office politics and corruption of his colleagues. He started out as a smug, ambitious kid straight out of law school, and while he’s still smug and ambitious, he made us root for him. He and Alicia were at their best when they were working together. Here’s hoping for a Florrick, Agos, and Associates 2.0 in the near future.

4. The perfect Diane exit

Diane Lockhart is one of the most amazing female characters I’ve ever seen on television. I’m not sure what it is, but the Kings need to give her the goodbye she deserves or there will be riots.

5. Everlasting friendship for Eli and Alicia

Eli’s character has grown from using Alicia to help Peter genuinely care about her, to trying to protect her from Peter. They’ve definitely gone through some rough patches (remember when he deleted that voicemail from Will?), but they really stuck by each other and really just need to remain close friends forever.

Honorable mention: more Elsbeth, please!
