Five New Albums For Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Tons of new music has been released in the past month and here’s a taste of the most popular albums so far!

1. Lorde: Pure Heroine

Everyone’s reaction to Lorde has been, “I can’t believe she’s 16 years old!” But there’s more to her than her age (Although, at 16… she is really talented). This is her debut album, which is a defining album for who she is as an artist. With that being said, Lorde may be creating the music of the millennial generation. The beats are strong and her voice creates a loud echo despite her petite teenage girl body. Not to mention her lyrics are quite brilliant, she is a master of words. She’s created a list of songs in a new category of pop music and may be dictating where it’s going in the future. Critics have compared her to Lana Del Rey and Florence and the Machine, but this is Lorde, and she’s going to be around for a while.

2. Miley Cyrus: Bangerz

Miley, Miley, Miley… Yeah, she’s crazy, so what? She definitely said goodbye to Hannah Montana (I’m sad, too), but it was time for Miley to come back out and show the world who she is now. This album is the 2013 Miley. Much different than the 2008 Miley, but it is the real Miley, believe it or not. Some of the songs are a little too outrageous (to the point where they just don’t make sense), but there are some hidden gems that really bring out the good in this new Miley. Check out “Adore You” and “Maybe You’re Right”.

3. Justin Timberlake: The 20/20 Experience- 2 of 2

It’s safe to say that everyone is fan-girling over Justin right now. From his VMA performance to the two releases of The 20/20 Experience, he’s unstoppable. It’s the classic JT with a new edge. If he didn’t win you over with his first release, this one will do it for ya. It’s a bit of a 70’s, retro feel, carefully sewn into an edgy 21st century pop tune. His two most popular songs from this album are “Take Back the Night” and “TKO”.

4. Cage The Elephant: Melophobia

What’s so great about this album is how carefree all the songs make you feel. It’s an album that you can listen to and really sit back and chill. It’s an escape from reality. By the end of every song you’ll be bobbing your head or tapping you foot. All the melodies are really catchy, despite how mellow they may seem. Not to mention this band is awesome. They’re just doing their own thing and making great music from it!

5. Grouplove: Spreading Rumours

Of course, Grouplove had to be mentioned… They are coming to AU after all. Their distinct sound echoes throughout this album. This album is definitely more cooled down than their first album, Never Trust a Happy Song, but the band is still in action and doing good things. Songs to look out for on the album are “Ways To Go” and “Shark Attack”.

Five other album honorable mentions:

6. Katy Perry: PRISM

7. Jack Johnson: From Here to Now to You

8. Avicii: True

9. Panic! At The Disco: Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die!

10. Kings of Leon: Mechanical Bull
