Five Fun and Unique Things To Do For Halloween in DC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

It’s that time again—the leaves are changing, the weather is getting cooler, the Dav has apple cider, and of course, Halloween is fast approaching. Every year though, there is always the stress on what to do or where to go to make the most out of the season. And while we can’t help decide on your costume, we can help you find the best and most unique places to help you make the most out of your Halloween.

1. Experience a museum like never before

Located right across from the National Portrait Gallery, the Crime Museum is a must-see for anyone curious about famous heists and the criminals behind them. But during the Halloween season, the museum quite literally comes to life. On select days from the 19th to the 31st of October, the exhibits transform into Fright at the Museum, a haunted house event filled with the criminally insane. If you want a good scare, the Crime Museum definitely knows how to deliver.

2. Listen to the soundtrack of Halloween

The Kennedy Center has the perfect alternative for those of us looking for something a little less scary. Dress up in your best costume and head on over for a concert featuring the performance of Halloween classics such as the theme from Phantom of the Opera and The Imperial March by the National Symphonic Orchestra.

3. Visit paranormal places in DC

Ready to be scared? Washington D.C. Ghost Tours know just how to send a chill up your spine. Each 90-minute walking tour features a professional guide who will explain the darker side of the District. And because everything is historically accurate, it makes it that much more frightening.

4. Get lost in a corn maze

Enjoy more of an autumn themed event with the Maze in the Plains. Named Northern Virginia’s best corn maze, this five acre field is sure to please. There is also a nighttime version for those more daring. Along with the maze, there is a hayride, pumpkin patch and hot apple cider to keep with the fall spirit.

5. For the thrill seekers: venture to a haunted house

Probably one of the scariest attractions this Halloween, Bennett’s Curse is a haunted house that features three different houses in one place. Reviewed as the most frightening in our area, you are sure to be entertained in this fast paced and intense showcase of Halloween.
