Elizabeth Warren Hints Towards 2020 Presidential Campaign

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

The weekend of September 29th, Elizabeth Warren spoke at the town hall in Holyoke, Massachusetts and dropped a hint at running for the presidential election in 2020, “So here’s what I promise: After November 6, I will take a hard look at running for president.” This statement immediately resulted in a standing ovation by the entire crowd in that town hall. Being from nearby Springfield, Massachusetts, I was extremely upset I missed seeing her speak, but also extremely excited to hear the possibility of such a strong female figure from Massachusetts consider the presidency.

Especially in today’s current political climate – from Trump to Kavanaugh – women need to come together to create change. What better way to do that than have a female candidate in the 2020 presidential elections? The real question is whether she has a genuine interest in pursuing the presidency. Warren is currently running for re-election in the Senate, so maybe this statement just to create buzz about her before constituents cast their ballots.

Personally, I would love to see a fellow Massachusetts-native run for the 2020 presidential election, especially Warren being the liberal woman she is. But if she does not end up running, I’m sure she will continue to fight for women and empower women through her position in the Senate.
