Editor’s Blog: What We’re Loving This Month

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Happy spring semester, collegiettes! The editors of Her Campus American hope you had a great winter break. We have rounded up what we are loving this month to share with you to help get you through January. Keep warm, hope for some more snow days and enjoy.

1. New York Times, 52 Places to Go in 2015

I only thing I may love more than travel itself is reading about unlikely destinations. An annual list published by the Times, it features new reasons to visit unique locations for travel plans. This year, some of the vacation spots include Singapore, Faroe Islands, and Oman. St. Kitts looks perfect to me.

2. Transparent, Amazon

Coming off of a win at the Golden Globes, Transparent is another amazing show from a non-traditional platform. Jeffery Tambor stars as a transgender woman with other amazing cast members. All episodes are available to stream for Amazon Prime users.

1. Nars Lip Gloss

This month I’ve been loving a lip gloss by Nars that I stumbled upon and bought before a big dinner party. Nars has been one of my favorite night-out makeup go-to’s from proms to New Year’s Eve festivities. The shade I got is called “Super Orgasm”, which is a typical cheeky name for one of Nars’s products. After the party, I loved my “Super Orgasm” peachy-pink-with-gold-shimmer shade so much that I got a more subdued peachy shade for every day called “Tasmania”. Not so long ago, Kim Kardashian (Pre-Kanye) admitted to loving the Nars lip gloss shade “Turkish Delight”.

2. Touch The Wall

Touch The Wall is a documentary about Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin, 19, who swims for the University of California Bears and the USA National Team. It’s the story of her high school swimming career and how she exploded onto the national swimming stage at 16, breaking the world record in the 200 meter backstroke. The documentary follows Franklin’s relationship with her training partner and mentor, Kara Lynn Joyce, 29, who had her own successful college and Olympic career and hoped to return to the Olympics in 2012. As a college swimmer, it really got me motivated to make the most of the sport I love. You can find the documentary in select theaters!

Kara Lynn Joyce, the Touch The Wall account and Missy Franklin’s mom favorited (humble brag).

3. Delicate Earrings

Small dainty studs are easy to wear and a way to express an extra bit of your personal style. I like pairing a cubic zirconia stud with a more interesting stud in my other peircing. Bloggers and Buzzfeed have shown many ways to sport these dainty little earrings. The more piercings you have, the more options!

1. SZA

A few months ago I featured FKA Twigs as an artist that I was loving. SZA is another great female artist of the same style in the Alternative R&B genre. Her EP Z, produced by Top Dawg Entertainment, includes features from great artists like Kendrick Lamar and Chance the Rapper. Her debut album A is due out sometime this year. Check out her song “Warm Winds” featuring Isaiah Rashad.

2. Beauty Risks

The other thing that I have been loving this month is beauty risks. I made it my new year’s resolution to try to be bolder with my look. This was probably inspired by a few months ago when our team put on the Red Lipstick Project on the Quad. With the bleakest winter months upon us, I’ve been trying to brighten up with a lipstick called “Divine Wine” from Maybelline.

1. Bib Necklaces

I’ve recently found a new love for statement necklaces and I especially love the bib/choker style. These necklaces can be worn with literally everything: whether it’s a simple T-shirt and jeans, or a dress for work, they’re the perfect way to spice up any outfit!

2. HBO’s Girls

Over winter break, one of my best friends somehow convinced me to watch the show Girls on HBO. She claimed it was absolutely hilarious and totally addicting. After one episode, I was hooked. Girls is a comedic drama created by and staring Lena Dunham. Most of the show is inspired by her life experiences. The show follows a girl named Hannah as she lives and works in New York City with her friends. But be warned, the show is full of sex (it’s HBO).

3. Essie Sand Tropez

I purchased this nail polish in early December and I don’t think I’ve ever been so obsessed with a nail color before. While Essie nail polishes tend to be pretty pricey, this polish color is totally worth it! The polish always applies opaque, and because it’s a neutral color, it goes with everything!
