The East Coast vs. West Coast debate is a never ending discussion. West Coasters will continue to believe their Pacific ocean and endless sunshine will triumph over any East Coast snowy day. Whereas, East Coasters believe that the West Coast’s congested highways and superficial movie stars have nothing on their concrete jungle and birthplace of American history.

Here are a few of the East Coast vs. West Coast stereotypes to give you a taste of each coast:

1. Snow vs. Sun

The constant days of sunshine, comfortable temperatures and lack of humidity on the West Coast would deem it by many as a location with “perfect” weather. Nevertheless, the West Coast is a stranger to the beautiful seasons that East Coasters experience. The excitement in the air during a warm spring day after a long cold winter is foreign to the West. Finally, most West Coasters, except a few who live in snowy areas, are not blessed with the beauty of a white Christmas that many East Coasters experience.

2. New York vs. Los Angeles

When people think of the West Coast, Los Angeles usually pops into their heads. The star struck home of Hollywood and Disney Land with its surfer guys, blonde girls, and beaches galore is considered by many the epitome of the West Coast. However, one cannot forget other brand name West Coast cities such as San Francisco, Seattle and Portland. On the other hand, New York City has Times Square, the fashion industry and the Statue of Liberty that all represent what it means to be an East Coast city. The concrete jungle attracts millions with its bright lights and endless opportunities for adventure. Then again, the East Coast is home to other significant cities such as Boston, Philadelphia and good ole’ Washington D.C. Though the question of which East Coast and West Coast city is the best is in the eye of the beholder.

3. Five Guys vs. In-N-Out

Everyone loves a good hamburger, yummy fries and a delicious milkshake. West Coasters will fight to the grave convincing the rest of the world that In-N-Out is considered the best fast food place in the U.S. To get a burger and fries on the East Coast, look no further than Five Guys. This Arlington, VA originating restaurant attracts East Coasters from up and down the coast.

4. New England Falls vs. Highway 1 Beaches

West Coasters will go on and on about their beautiful scenic Highway 1. Highway 1 stretches down the California coast and is known for its breathtaking views of the Pacific ocean. East Coasters would argue that those West Coast beaches have nothing on their New England Falls. The magnificent bursts of red, orange and yellow trees you see while driving down the roads of New England is a sight for sore eyes, especially in the fall.

5. Vineyard Vines vs. PacSun

The difference in clothing style is an apparent distinction between East Coasters and West Coasters. PacSun, founded in Anaheim California, embodies “typical” West Coast fashion with its jean shorts, bikinis, flip flops and crop tops. Vineyard Vines, founded on Martha’s Vineyard, is considered by many a perfect example of the “preppy” East Coast style with its button-down shirts, polos and cardigans.

6. Sea Food vs. Mexican Food

Being so close to Mexico, the West Coast is blessed with the gift of fresh enchiladas, tacos and guacamole. You will not be disappointed when it comes to an authentic Mexican meal on the West Coast. The East Coast is known for its fresh sea food with its classic New England Clam Chowder and Maine lobster.

7. Cherry Blossoms vs. Redwoods

The West Coast cherishes its redwoods that line the skies. These giant beauties are found throughout California, Oregon and Washington and will make anyone feel small. The East Coast, especially Washington D.C., takes pride in its beautiful cherry blossoms. These pink trees line the city of D.C. and even have their own festival.

8.Surfing vs. Skiing

The West Coast is known for its surfing culture. From San Francisco to San Diego one can find an abundance of surfers along the California coast. The East Coast, on the other hand, is known for its winter sports. Most East Coast families are known to take long weekend ski trips to Vermont or New York, states which offers ideal skiing conditions.

9. Dunkin’ Donuts vs. Peet’s Coffee

Which coast is home to the best coffee? West Coasters would argue that their Peet’s Coffee, founded in San Francisco, triumphs over any other coffee shop. Also, the West Coast has Seattle to thank for the creation of Starbucks. East Coaster’s tend to disagree and see Dunkin’ Donuts as the home of the best coffee. After all, “America Run’s on Dunkin’!”

As you can see, both coasts have their own individual style and unique personalities. They are both great in their own way, and the winner of the West Coast vs. East Coast debate will be forever unknown. So what do you think, are you an East Coaster or a West Coaster?
