Don’t Know What to Do for Halloween? We’ve Got You Covered

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

With Covid-19 causing many towns and neighborhoods to stop trick or treating or plan any large Halloween events, there are still lots of fun and safe ways to celebrate. So fear not for those who started celebrating this holiday all month long there are still many spooky, fun activities for you to do!

Pumpkin Carving Party

In most places, pumpkin patches are still open for the public while still requiring social distancing. You can even buy a couple of pumpkins and carving from your local grocery store as well. Plus the setup is easy to avoid a mess as all you need is some old newspaper and a bowl to put the seeds and guts in. Not to mention, if you live in an area near a zoo many of them accept old carved pumpkins as a way to feed their animals. Although it should be noted that you can only donate these pumpkins that are carved only and not painted.

Host a Murder Mystery Night Through Zoom

There are many ways that you can still connect with friends this Halloween. One way is to host a murder mystery night in the spirit of a more true crime Halloween than one of ghosts and ghouls. There are thousands of both online and card games for you to play. With the online game Among Us being the hit game of 2020, or if you are feeling more old school, nothing beats playing the childhood classic Mafia.

Have a Halloween Photoshoot

Whether you go all or keep it simple with your Halloween costume you can still show it off by having a photoshoot. There are a ton of TikToks that shows how you can set it up. So whether you want to keep it easy with just a couple of pumpkins and the fall scenery with the crimson and orange leaves, or go all out with setting with homemade props to match your theme. Not to mention you can always get your family and a small group of friends to help out while also getting some pictures taken as well.

Have a Scary Story Competition

Similar to the events in Geneva that led Mary Shelly to create Frankenstein, gather your friends either in Zoom or if you can to really set the mood to host a social distancing bonfire. Have you and your friends taking turns to see who can conjure up the scariest bone-chilling story. Or if you want to have a more light-hearted storytelling moment, you can shout out some mad-lips around to create your own funny and non-scary Halloween story.

Halloween Movie Night

And finally, you can’t go wrong with a classic Halloween movie night. With so many themed movies you can pick and choose what kind of movie night you want to do. A classic black and white monster flick, 80s horror, or even classic Disney channel specials- the possibilities are endless. So cozy up with a pile of blankets and your comfiest Pjs, or even wear your costumes if you want and binge these classic Halloween films while eating your favorite snacks or even candy as it is the season for it.

While there are so many more events that you can either host or participate in this year for Halloween and still be safe doing so. Hopefully, this list will help generate different ideas to celebrate the witching hour this year.
