American University collegiettes™, it’s official: a DC Cupcake star walks amongst us. Claire Moyer, a junior in Kogod, takes her business expertise from the classroom into the baking world as an employee of Georgetown Cupcake.
“I absolutely love working here; we’re like a family,” Moyer said. A recent addition to the Georgetown Cupcake team, Moyer has already been filmed for the famous show on TLC, and admits that she loves watching her fellow co-workers on screen. However, there are definitely more perks to working at this dessert hotspot than just being caught on camera. Moyer explained just one of her famous introductions while at work to Alex Ovechkin, star of the Washington Capitals, when he walked in one day for a snack.
There seems to never be a dull moment at the store. “Wedding orders are definitely my favorite,” Moyer explains. “They are the highlight of my workday.” Her current favorite cupcake flavor is Lava Fudge, but she says that you can never go wrong with the old fashion Red Velvet. When asked if she could bring back any flavor that was made in the past, she chose the delectable cupcakes-of-the-month in June: White Chocolate Raspberry and Blueberry Cheesecake.
When she’s not busy selling tasty treats, Moyer divides her time between a few different on-campus activities including working as a tutor for the Academic Support Center and as a chair position in Alpha Kappa Psi. Moyer also represents her passion for the arts as a member of the New Music Ensemble and the American University Symphony Orchestra. When she’s not busy with her extracurriculars, she can be spotted around campus giving tours to prospective students as a school ambassador.
What’s up next for Georgetown Cupcake? Moyer gave us the inside scoop: there’s a new Georgetown Cupcake store opening in Soho, New York this December. She also said to be on the lookout for a special TV event about the recent wedding of one of the Georgetown Cupcake owners, sisters Katherine Kallinis and Sophie LaMontagne.
