Beyoncé’s Photoshop Scandal

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. Some of you may know her as the flawless Queen B. But this past year, she might be a little less than just flawless. Since releasing her secret-album over night, her entire life has been the subject of many tabloid headlines. But as most of us may know, the Carters are known for their silence. Instead, Beyonce has often gone to social media and her website to post a photo with cryptic captions. Last week, when Beyonce released a photo au-natural in a white bikini, the rumors started about her recent photoshop-ed photos. Could this be her way of responding to recent gossip?

Earlier this year, Beyonce posted a photo on Instagram playing golf, and the photo that sparked the photoshop controversies. People accused her of widening her thigh gap, and altering the photo to make her legs look thinner. What’s up with ladies these days and their obsession over the thigh gap?

In August, Beyonce posted another photo of herself. On the surface level there may be nothing wrong with the photo, but if you look at her thighs, the iPhone and the wine glass, the photo looks completely distorted. Unless this photo was taken with the new bending iPhone 6’s, then I would say this photo was definitely altered. There’s also no weight to her sitting on the couch. Weird.

On a recent vacation trip, Beyonce posted yet another photo. The photo showed Beyonce walking down a staircase in a string bikini. What’s the issue? If you look closely, the stairs behind her don’t line up at all. In fact, the top stair, and the one between her thighs are completely crooked

Now we all understand editing our Instagram by changing the lighting and filters. But is Beyoncé’s blatant photoshop efforts too far?

Fans were absolutely outraged by her photoshop efforts. They argued and speculated over the reasons behind her photoshop. Some thought it may have been a faulty assistant who “didn’t know any better,” while others screamed their love for Beyonce, thigh gap or no thigh gap. Others demanded that the media stop scrutinizing these photos, and that it isn’t her fault she feels pressured to alter her photos. Yes, it might have been a bad decision to poorly edit these photos, but we all know that celebrities aren’t perfect, and we shouldn’t expect them to be.

Beyonce, if you ever read this, you should know that people love you for you. Your fans will love you with curves and they’d still love you without them. So flaunt your curves and be proud. People idolize you: you’re a role model to many and photoshopping your thighs t fit the standards of “beauty” in society isn’t the right way to go about it. No one expects you to be perfect or look perfect all the time, so flaunt your figure.
