Best Vintage and Second Hand Stores in the District

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

When I was about ten or eleven, I read “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” for the first time. What stood out to me more than anything in this book was that the girls found their magical pants at a thrift store. From that moment on, I was obsessed with anything vintage, probably in the hopes that one day I would find my own pair of super-pants. Today, we honor the Sisterhood with a collection of some of DC’s most stylish second hand shops.

Secondi- Dupont Circle

While Secondi’s prices are likely out of range for the average student, it’s certainly possible to find a good deal.  With one of it’s two seasonal sales coming up in February, there’s no reason not to check out it out. You might be tempted to revel at their wall of vintage coats for hours, but be sure to check out their accessory selection before you leave for the best deals.

REDDz Trading- Bethesda/Georgetown

A resale store, REDDz likes to emphasis the eco-friendliness of its practice: students can sell their old clothes and receive cash on the spot. Though I personally prefer the Bethesda location (I’ve found it has cheaper prices), REDDz also has a location in Georgetown. The accessory sections at both locations are quite impressive: check out their blog to see some of the vintage designer handbags sold.

Meeps Vintage – 18th Street

Meeps prides itself on providing alternative options for a relatively mainstream city. From casual styles from the 1960s to more modern options, it tends to run on the pricier side, but it’s still possible to find affordable vintage.  Meeps also boasts an eclectic costume selection that’s certainly worth a browse.

Mustard Seed – Bethesda

Seriously, if this wasn’t where the sisterhood found their pants, then I don’t know where they did. Mustard Seed has been a staple for college students for over twenty years, but continues to maintain a high quality of affordable second hand clothes. Whether you want to channel 1960 Mod style or go grunge in flannel, this store has options from every era. Check out their Instagram to preview some of the typical fashions available, and visit their website for seasonal coupons.
