Collegiettes, need some advice for your next interview? Look no further than the Professional Women’s Association. Alexa Patterson is a soon-to-be-graduate who put her business expertise to work with this new professional organization on campus.
As the President and founder, Patterson describes the PWA as “a club for undergraduate women of all majors to network, work on professional development and take advantage of the resources for women in DC.” After she discovered a similar group on campus that was only open to graduate students, Patterson took the initiative to start up this ladies-only club. The PWA is already making a splash on American’s campus with their slew of recent events including the Gold Standard Panel, the Alumni Working Women panel, and a Z-Burger fundraiser for breast cancer research among others. A networking queen, Patterson said that part of her inspiration for creating the group was to encourage other American University ladies to step up their professional game.
This soon-to-be-graduate is blazing her own trail and plans to move to New Zealand after graduation. With a double major in Business and International Studies under her belt, as well as her experience with the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi, Patterson has tons to offer any potential employer. When she heads out on an interview, you can bet she’s ready to rock, and sporting her good luck charm necklace from her brother.
Outside of the classroom, Patterson enjoys hanging out with her AKPsi family and exploring all that DC has to offer. An avid Harry Potter fan, Patterson even sports a Deathly Hallows tattoo under her ear. With her dynamic personality and outgoing nature, we can’t wait to see what this professional women does next!
