5 Reasons Why Waka Flocka Flame Deserves To Be Speaker

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Ever since John Boehner retired as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Congress has been in a frenzy to find a replacement. Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan seems to be the favorite, but congressmen and women should consider other options before voting Ryan in.

In an interview with Funny or Die, Atlanta rapper Juaquin James Malphurs, also known as Waka Flocka Flame, announced his candidacy for Speaker. Mr. Malphurs is famous for rap classics, “Round of Applause”, “Hard in the Paint”, “O Let’s Do It”, and “Grove St. Party”. But it seems like Waka is ready for the next step in his career. Here are five reasons why Waka should be our next speaker.

1. He has a strong interest in politics.

Earlier this year, Waka announced that he would be running for president. Although Waka does not have much background in politics, the hopeful candidate promised to legalize weed, ban dogs from restaurants and to increase the federal minimum wage. However, at only 29 years old, Waka is too young to run for president. So speaker is the next best gig for him!

2. He has new legislation in mind.

Waka isn’t joking around. He already has plans to implement “cool things” like marijuana legalization, women’s rights and gun control. Waka is a man with a plan, and that’s exactly what we need in the House of Representatives.

3. He’s great with conflict resolution.

In 2013, Waka found himself beefing with fellow rapper and longtime friend, Gucci Mane. Gucci reportedly dropped Waka from 1017 Brick Squad Records and filed a lawsuit against Waka and his mother and manager, Deb Antney. After hurling insults at each other over Twitter and vowing never to work together again, it seemed like the end was near. In 2014, Waka tweeted a photo of himself and Gucci Mane with the caption “…NoBeef.” Waka has since confirmed in interviews that the two are cool again and have buried the hatchet. He also managed to avoid any conflict during his short stint on VH1’s Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta. This is the type of leadership that we need in America. We need a politician who knows how to squash the beef and get back to business.

4. He has big plans.

In his interview with Funny or Die, Waka revealed that he wants to get rid of the Trans-Partnership and voter ID laws. He is also strongly against building a wall between the U.S and Mexico. Waka knows what Americans need, and isn’t afraid to rock the boat to get us there.

5. He coined the word “squad”.

Waka was famous for yelling the word “squad” in his rap tracks way before you named your group chat “squad.” Waka Flocka coined the word “squad” when he started rapping, and the word gained popularity in 2010 when his debut studio album, Flockavelli, was released by 1017 Brick Squad Records. Waka even set the record straight on Twitter earlier this year, saying that he “started the word #SQUAD.” So call your representatives and tell them that you want Waka Flocka Flame as speaker of the House, and thank him for inspiring your “#squadgoals” Instagram captions.
