5 Non Federal Work Study On Campus Jobs for AU Students

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

If you are an American University student without Federal Work Study, you know the struggle that is finding an on campus job. Here are five of those rare opportunities to help you get started:

1. The Library – working at the library is comparable to a customer service job, helping students find materials and checking out electronic equipment. The library prefers Federal Work Study students but does look at non FWS applicants as well. Starting salary is $10.50/hour but they do promote. 12 hours/week is the preferred time but you can work more or less depending on your schedule.

2. Academic Support & Access Center – working as a tutor for ASAC is another viable option. It pays $11/hour and the number of hours depends on demands for the subjects you’re tutoring each semester. You must have received an A or an A- in the subjects you would like to tutor for.

3. Fitness Leader/Lifeguard – Recreational Sports and Fitness is now hiring for Summer and Fall 2016.  Fitness leaders work the floor of the gym, giving tours, demonstrating equipment, and keeping the area safe and clean. Lifeguards must be certified in CPR and First Aid. This job is especially great for early risers or night owls because the gym opens early and closes late. Base pay starts at $10.50/hour. The application for Summer 2016 must be submitted by March 25, 2016.

4. Desk Coordinator for Housing and Dining Programs – HDP employs students for a variety of positions throughout the year. The only one available right now is Desk Coordinator. The Desk Coordinator is responsible for a variety of tasks, including assisting with the selection and training of desk receptionists and coordinators. The Desk Coordinator is required to work a minimum of 15 hours a week at a rate of $12.00/hour and $10.50/hour for any additional hours worked at the desk. More student staff jobs will be posted here as they arise. The Desk Coordinator Application is due March 22, 2016 at 9 am.

5. Peer Advisor at the Career Center – Peer Advisors help students work on resumes and cover letters, do marketing and outreach for the career center and provide support at career center events. Hourly rate is $11.50-12.50/hour and peer advisors work in the career center office for 8-10 hours a week. The application deadline is March 25, 2016.
