Meet Dante ‘Tae’ Spence

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Albany chapter.

Meet Dante ‘Tae’ Spence.  He’s a sophomore at the university from Brooklyn, with a major in psychology, and a minor in communications.

So, what made you want to come to UAlbany-

Well- I got accepted, and it seemed like the best fit.  Two of my friends were also planning on going here so that influenced my decision too.

What’s your favorite moment of your undergrad career so far?

I’d have to say the candlelighting ceremony during move in week freshman year.  It made me feel like- wow, I’m really in college.  This is really cool.  I made it.  It was just a great feeling overall.

What are you involved in on campus?

I’m in Posh Daily.  The best way to describe it is that it’s a web blog, covering topics such as health, fashion, music, and current events.  This is our first full year back, and we’ve had a couple of events so far.  I’m apart of the public relations committee, so my responsibility is to  promote and get the word out about what we’re doing and our content, and to take charge of our twitter account.

A piece of advice you’d give to freshmen..

Your first semester is worth a lot.  Maybe even worth more than your senior year.  If you start off well- let’s say, getting a 4.0, it’s easier to recover from when your classes start getting harder as time goes on.  Don’t underestimate your first semester!

Who’s your biggest inspiration in life?

My father. He emigrated from Jamaica to the United States, and worked his whole life so that I could go to college.  I couldn’t thank him more, and I just hope to one day be able to give back to him what he gave to me.

Biggest fear?

Not leaving something behind, I want to be able to have a legacy and a lasting impact on others and the world.

In 10 years, how do you think your life will be?

Idealy, I hope to be married in the next ten years.  Maybe a child will be in the works.  Also, I want to be a sports psychologist working at Syracuse University.  An eventual goal is to have my own practice one day.

What’s would you say your best asset is?

My smile.  I’m able to cheer people up with that, and be a positive light.  I don’t let things get to me.

Favorite artist-

Kanye West, he’s a lyrical genius, his impact on the community as a whole
