For a long time now, things have been heating up between rappers’ Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma. This isn’t the first time Nicki has been in the spotlight for starting beef with a hip hop legend. A few years ago in 2012, the “Super Bass” rapper targeted Lil Kim in an attempt to claim the hip-hop crown. Fast forward to 2016, no one knows exactly why this battle started, however, 3 months prior to what seems to be the beginning of the speculated beef, Remy Ma was seen on social media congratulating Nicki Minaj for winning “Rapper of the Year” at the BET awards, to which Nicki responded “Omg. Thank You, Remy. That means so much. Congrats to u as well, for an exciting year”.
Everything seemed to be going well until on September 4th, 2016 Nicki Minaj Released the “Pinkprint Freestyle” rapping over Young MA’s “OOUU”. She apparently seemed to be throwing shots at a mysterious female foe, saying “ F*ck outta here you dumb b**ch/ You know I’m pretty, and I’m witty and I’m dumb rich/ You throw shade, but I sun b**ch/ And now you know what Imma say you, my son, b**ch”. After releasing the freestyle Remy Ma responded to the shots fired during her cypher at the BET Hip Hop Awards and then again in November during her song “Money Showers” featuring Fat Joe. Remy says “She claiming she the queen, what? Not hardly/ Who the f*ck gave you your crown, b**ch Steve Harvey”? Remy continued to throw shots during her Funk Flex freestyle and again in her song “Wait a minute”. Nicki did not respond to the lyrical attacks until earlier this month when she released both “Swalla” and “Make Love” featuring Gucci Mane.
Less than 24 hours following the release of “Make Love” Remy released “SHether” paying homage to Nas’s “Ether” which is also a diss track, released in 2001 to target Jay-Z. The 7-minute long song destroys Nicki Minaj’s whole existence. Keep in mind that Remy Ma began her career in Hip Hop as a battle rapper, which means she is very skilled in doing research and taking lethal shots at people. Some of her grimiest lyrics reference how Minaj’s implants popped and how she supposedly does coke. Remy says things like “Coke head, you cheated on your man with Ebro. I might leak the footage of you sniffin’ them ski slopes”. The 7 minute diss track got so much attention Nicki’s fans assumed she would be ready with a come back the same day of the release! When in fact, Nicki Minaj still has yet to respond. We don’t know how long this war will continue but let’s just say I’m with the antics! #TeamRemyMa
