The Greatest Love of All

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Albany chapter.

As we get older, we start to understand the different elements that make up the word “love.” At a young age our parents teach us how to love and respect them, while at the same time we learn how to spread love to the world. Although no love can compare to love of your parents, the greatest love of all needs to be prioritized more often.

One might ask, what is the greatest love of all? Well, this answer varies from person to person but take a moment to think about it.

There is no love like self-love. As humans we get so caught up in learning how to love those around us, or even learning how to love a complete stranger and forget to put ourselves first. Now that I have initiated some nostalgia in your mind, answer this question:

How much do you love yourself?

There is a difference between being cocky or confident and simply loving yourself. It’s important to love the person that you’ve become and to trust the process in which you will learn all about what makes you, YOU. Taking time to cater to your desires and doing what makes you happy is part of this process.

Self-love takes time and patience. We live in a world where knocking each other down has become completely “normal.” I actually believe that this should not be a thing at all; we need to lift one another up rather than pull each other down. Keeping in mind that the little gestures count is important. You enjoy somebody’s company? Tell them. You see your team winning? Remind them how well they’re doing.

After meeting Lisa Sugar, author of “Power Your Happy” and founder of Popsugar at the HER Conference this summer, I learned all about about investing into my happiness. Although this might take some time, Sugar is the prime example of “timing is everything.” One must take some time to actually work on experiencing life and learning all about the do’s and don’ts that exist out here.

Don’t let anybody dim your light, you are a work in progress and you will get to where you need to be ……at the right time. Make sure to spread love wherever you go and I assure you it will come right back.
