Who broke our hearts Olivia?

Olivia Rodrigo, 17-year-old actress and singer on Disney’s High School Musical: The Musical, released her debut single ‘drivers license’ on January 7th. The single quickly went viral on all social media platforms, causing everyone to quite literally cry their *bleeping* hearts out while screaming the lyrics at the top of their lungs. Almost instantly, fans of the song began to investigate who could have broken our hearts this bad. And yes, I said OUR hearts because in the words of Victoria Justice, “I think we ALL [got our hearts broken]”. After 2020, Gen Z will forever be going through it together. So, the question remains, who broke our hearts Olivia?

TikTok users banded together and launched into a full investigation to find the heartbreaker. This is what they’ve concluded: Joshua Bassett, Olivia’s 20-year-old costar on High School Musical: The Musical, is the culprit. Joshua and Olivia were rumored to have been dating, but it was never confirmed. Although, I’ve gone back and watched interviews of the pair, and let’s just say there is no way they were just friends.

One lyric of the song is “just like we always talked about,” and this is in reference to finally getting her driver’s license after the said love interest helped her learn how to drive. Social media has uncovered that Olivia admitted in an interview that was the first person who took her out driving and was very excited for her to finally get her license. Olivia sings “I still see your face, in the white cars,” and what do you know, Joshua’s YouTube channel confirmed that he does in fact own a white car. Watching a YouTube clip of Olivia recalling the memory of her and Joshua had me in literal tears.

It gets juicier…we’re talking about a love triangle here people!

Fans have been shipping Olivia and Joshua since their first episode hit Disney+. The pair had been photographed out on what appeared to be several dates. Some say that Joshua had told Olivia he’d wait for her, as she was not 18 yet and it was against the law to have a romantic relationship. Despite that rumor, Joshua has recently been spotted around Los Angeles looking very up close and personal with 21-year-old actress and singer, Sabrina Carpenter. The tea is overflowing.

Two lyrics that confirm who the song was written about is when Olivia sings, “and you’re probably with that blonde girl, who always made me doubt” and, “She’s so much older than me, she’s everything I’m insecure about.” Guess who is blonde and four years older than Olivia? SABRINA FREAKING CARPENTER. There is no doubt in my mind that the love triangle is Olivia, Joshua, and Sabrina. Despite this, the trio has refused to comment on any of the rumors.

As the song reaches an end, Olivia sings:

“And I just can’t imagine how you could be so okay now that I’m gone

Guess you didn’t mean what you wrote in that song about me

Yeah, you said forever now I drive alone past your street”

The pair has been known to write songs for and with each other for both the show and their own solo careers. Some say that Joshua inspired the song “All I Want,” which was released in 2020.

Unfortunately, it does not seem like the romance between Olivia and Joshua will rekindle anytime soon, as he seems to be in a happy relationship with Sabrina. Nevertheless, heart-broken or not, Olivia Rodrigo is doing hot girl sh*t and living her best life. She is planning to release more music in these upcoming months, which will hopefully help us recover from the heartbreak that is ‘drivers license.’

And that is the tea.
