When I heard about the remake of my favorite Disney movie, I don’t think I was so excited for something like this in my entire life. Beauty and the Beast was one of my favorites due to the quality of songs they had. I also envisioned myself as Belle; maybe that’s because I’m brunette just like her. This movie had high expectations for me even though times have changed in the last twenty-six years. I, along with everyone who has seen it, would agree that it’s one of the best movies of the year. It marked $170 million in the opening weekend. With the success of this movie, I think that Disney has officially made their comeback in the current film industry.

Something I will never understand about this movie is the major controversy that has surrounded it. Disney has casted a role for a gay character for the first time in their history and it has proven to be a pivotal moment in the film industry. A lot of people have seemed to enjoy the character despite this overreaction. The character of Le Fou adds a lot of humor and a deeper plotline, as noticed with the relationship between Le Fou and Gaston. Le Fou is always so loyal to Gaston, even when Gaston doesn’t deserve it (which is most of the time).

The movie teaches an overall life lesson: your monetary earnings in life don’t determine your happiness. You have to find happiness within yourself. The prince, before he turned into a beast, hosted the most lavish parties, a huge castle, and endless riches. Even with all of the good things that have happened in his life, the prince only cared about superficial matters. Belle, on the other hand, has made the most of what she’s been given. With her mom dying while Belle was a baby, her dad being taken by the Beast, and the whole village being mean to her Belle has had her fair share of struggles. Even throughout her struggles and issues she finds the beauty in the Beast.

Beauty and the Beast was overall one of the most aesthetically pleasing movies I’ve seen in my lifetime. The combination of the extravagant costumes, the euphoric music, and the talented actors has made this one of the most successful Disney movies of all times, even as a remake. Disney really took this movie and encaptured all of the magic that Disney encourages in every movie. The movie made me smile, laugh, and cry, sometimes at the same time. If you’re a fan of Beauty and the Beast or remakes in general, I would recommend seeing this movie. Just be prepared to have all the feels.
