How To Make the Most Out of Galentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Alabama chapter.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and you find yourself single. Your roommate and her significant other are going out to dinner, and you aren’t exactly sure what to do with yourself. Instead of spending this day of love alone, remember that it’s not just Valentine’s Day; it’s Galentine’s Day! So, text the girls and do something to love and appreciate each other because, let’s be honest, they’re much better than a significant other. Here are some fun ways you and your besties can make the most out of Galentine’s Day:

Host a Baking Party

We all know that a sweet treat makes any day an amazing one. Put on some cute pajamas, grab your speaker, and head over to whoever’s house has the best kitchen. Grab some pink food dye, cake mix, and decorate your delicious creation with some heart-shaped sprinkles. Take some cute photos with your finished product and post them on Instagram to make sure everyone knows how much you love your besties. (Bonus points if you eat the cake with wine glasses to be extra trendy!)

PowerPoint Night

A couple of days in advance, text in the group chat and tell everyone to make a fun presentation on anything they want (literally anything). Invite everyone over on Sunday night, provide popcorn, and let the laughing-until-you-can’t-breathe begin.

Go to Birmingham for the Day

Tuscaloosa is the best place on Earth, but sometimes it’s fun to get out of town for a little bit. If you’re feeling adventurous, take a day trip down to Birmingham with the girls! Pick three or four stops to make, and don’t forget to take some cute Instagram pictures! I recommend shopping at The Summit, grabbing a treat at Cookie Fix, and taking pictures in front of one of Birmingham’s many murals. End the day with dinner at the Cheesecake Factory (because who doesn’t love that brown bread?) and be sure to play old Katy Perry on the drive back.

Try Bowling

Bowling is always fun, even if you aren’t very good. After a short car ride to Bowlero on McFarland Blvd., rent a lane for a few hours and put on those super cute bowling shoes! Of course, you have to make up fun nicknames for the scoreboard and enjoy some delicious bowling alley food (I recommend the fries). Even if you can’t score a strike, it’s a fun way to bond with your besties.

Bob Ross Painting Night and Pizza

Pick up some canvases, paint and brushes from Target or Hobby Lobby, and get Dominoes delivered (thank you, Dining Dollars). Turn on an episode of The Joy of Painting and get to it! Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect, just have fun! In the end, have a neutral third party judge the paintings and select a winner. Don’t forget to keep your work of art for the memories.

When in doubt, just go to Cookout and laugh at silly TikToks with your friends. Let’s be real, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about loving a significant other; it can simply be about loving those around you. Spending time with your besties can be the perfect way to remind them how much you love them. If you try any of these activities, post on Instagram and tag us @hercampusbama, so we can see how you’re sharing the love this holiday!
