Ann Elizabeth Sovereign

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Alabama chapter.

Major: Philosophy and Political Science

Year: Sophomore

Relationship Status: Single

Hometown: Nashville, Tenn.

Interests: Learning languages (currently learning my fourth!), baking, dance, fashion, watching TV, lexicology/linguistics, classic British & Russian literature

Interesting Fact about Yourself: I can rap… just don’t ever ask me to do it.

Greek Affiliation: Gamma Phi Beta

What song on your iPod is on repeat? It’s a four-way tie between Childish Gambino’s “Bonfire,” Adele’s “Daydreamer,” and Laura Marling’s cover of “Blues Run the Game,” and The Buzzcocks’ “Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve)?”.

If people were to give you a superlative, what do you think it would be? After polling my friends, Most Likely to Keep it Classy.

What’s something people would be surprised to know about you? I was a tomboy as a kid. My mom practically had to wrangle me into dresses until I was 8 or 9.

What do you look for in a boy? A pulse… but more seriously, intelligence, humility, height, and (clichéd as it is) a healthy sense of humor.

What is the most confusing thing boys do? Not text/call back. If you’re interested, take the time to act interested; playing it cool won’t get you anywhere.

Do you have a favorite pick up line? If so, what is it? “Dinnersexmovie this weekend, babe?” It’s my favorite in terms of directness and total obliviousness to the fact that it just isn’t going to happen.

What is your idea of a perfect date? I’m pretty simple, dinner (or even just coffee) is fine by me. I’m not big on flowers or anything fancy.

What’s the most romantic thing a boy has ever done for you? I’ve been serenaded once or twice. I can’t say that it was the best experience (I’m really shy about public displays of affection.), but it’s probably the cutest attempt at romance I’ve ever seen.

What is your best memory of Alabama/Tuscaloosa and why? A couple of weeks ago when it snowed. Even though I don’t get to see snow a lot (even at home), it’s my absolute favorite weather.

If you could bring only 3 things on a deserted island, what would they be?  A box of emergency flares (The end goal here is to be rescued, right?), my phone (replete with books and movies), and one of those solar-powered phone chargers. Also, I’m pretty sure I couldn’t survive without sunscreen, so I’d sneak that in somehow.

What are your future goals? I plan on going to law school. I want to specialize in international law and eventually end up working for the UN, in whatever capacity I am able to. I’d love to meet a great guy and settle down, but you can’t really plan for that, can you?

Hi there, I'm Lauren. I write & I sing opera, musical theatre & country music - just not at the same time. I live my life in pink, navy and copious amounts of glitter. Roll tide!
