A Valentine’s Day Playlist for Every Relationship Status

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Akron chapter.

Have you ever noticed how the majority of music is about love and relationships? There are so many potential song topics and yet we all jam out to gushy love lyrics, heart wrenching breakup songs and everything in between. Why is this? I guess there’s not one answer but in my opinion it’s because love is one of the most universal feelings. It is also arguably the most intense feelings and one that sparks a wide range of other emotions as well. Considering the varying situations one might find themselves in this on February 14th, I made 3 playlists, one for each “relationship status”.  To listen to any of these playlists go ahead and click the hyperlink located on the titles of the playlists.

The first one is for the couples out there. The ones buying chocolates and flowers and feeling like they are the only two people in the world. Besides blowing a paycheck I am sure this Valentine’s Day will be very special for you. If this isn’t your first time celebrating Valentine’s Day might I make a suggestion, do it the following weekend when everything is on sale and the restaurants aren’t so busy. Romance on a budget is still romance.

Taken

Okay don’t worry, this isn’t a “I am single and I hate my life” playlist. That way of thinking sucks. It is nice to have someone as a partner but it is by no means the only way to be happy and content. There are plenty of benefits to being single and doing things on your own can be empowering. You’ll notice how the majority of these songs are by female artists. I didn’t do this on purpose but I found the songs I liked that I deemed acceptable for this playlist were by badass women.

Single

Midnight Sky- Miley Cyrus

no tears left to cry by Ariana Grande

That’s Right by Cage The Elephant

It’s not u it’s me by Bea Miller

Perfectly Lonely by John Mayor

Hurricane by Halsey

ICY GIRL by Saweetie

Ride by Lana Del Rey

Buttercup by Hippocampus

Girls in the Hood by Megan The Stallion

The last one is the “it’s complicated” playlist. Surprisingly, this was the easiest one to find music for. I don’t know if that says more about me or just relationships in general, maybe both. “It’s complicated” can mean a lot of things and it’s not always bad (it’s just…..complicated). These songs cover a variety of situations one might find themselves in somewhere between single and taken this Valentine’s Day.
