Side Hustle Jobs for Broke College Students

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Akron chapter.

College is not cheap. First you have to pay tuition. Then they expect you to buy books, pay to be part of organizations, and pay rent. Then, of course, you have to feed yourself somehow. It’s not cheap! Recently, I had a quarter life crisis and a few mental breakdowns due to my bank account constantly laughing at me and my lack of funds. So this summer, I did some research and I’m going to share my little secret with you; side hustles for your basic every day broke college student life.

Tip #1: UserTesting

I love this website! First, you create an account and take a test. Then, you test websites for companies when a test is available. You record everything, give your honest response, and boom, you become $10 richer. I once did 3 tests in under 20 minutes and became $30 richer.

Tip #2: Swagbucks

This particular site involves a bunch of different surveys. Each survey you take is worth a certain amount of points. Once you reach a certain amount of points, you’re able to cash in those points for gift cards. The more points you cash in, the more your gift card will be worth!

Tip #3: Blogging

This site requires a little more attention than the first two, and hasn’t necessarily worked for me. In order to actually make some cash off your blog, you have to bring in a ton of hits. Once your blog brings in enough traffic, companies may approach you asking to promote their products on your blog. This also works with YouTube.

Of these three options, I’m personally very loyal to UserTesting. It helps fill up your gas tank once a week.

Overall, my advice is to test the water when it comes to survey and testing websites. Bring in that cash and earn an extra few dollars for the weekend!
