On May 31st, at 12:06 a.m., President Trump tweeted probably one of the most bizarre tweets seen this year:
“Despite the constant negative press covfefe,” it stated, leaving people in utter awe and bewilderment. What kind of word was ‘covfefe’? What did it mean? Without an explanation, the Internet was left to figure it out for themselves.
After being begged for an answer, Merriam-Webster gave their own opinion on the matter: they don’t know what it means either.
So, the Internet decided to take matters into its own hands…
Did Vizzini really say ‘inconceivable’? Or was it ‘incovfefeable’? I guess we’ll never know.
Hillary Clinton expressed her own take on the meaning and threw some serious shade:
The media finally came to the conclusion of what was really whispered into Scarlett Johansson’s ear at the very end of “Lost in Translation.” Finally, after fourteen years!
And here are just a few more jokes that were certainly enjoyed in creating and viewing:
Despite all of this, Trump deleted the tweet after a few hours, and instead of giving an explanation for the strange wording of the tweet, this is what he released to twitter later on:
Sean Spicer, press secretary of the White House stated: “The president and a small group of people know exactly what he meant.” So until the president, or this alleged group of people decide to give us an explanation, it is up to the Internet to give us its own.
