How to Feel Connected to Your Partner While Social Distancing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Akron chapter.

There’s a lot to miss about college life. In-person classes, Starbucks twice a day and going out over the weekends with friends may be on the list of things you’re craving as you spend hour after hour inside. As if things haven’t changed enough, you might have to be socially distant from your significant other. Going from spending everyday together to living off of Facetime calls and text messages is a hard transition and it can be easy to feel lonely or out of touch with your boo. Here are some ways to keep connecting with your partner, even when you are apart.

Stream a Movie

It’s not the same as cuddling on the couch and sharing a bag of popcorn but watching a movie at the same time can make you feel closer to your loved one. Text jokes and reactions throughout the movie and afterwards call them and discuss.

Get Gaming

Let’s face it, our lives are pretty boring right now. Constantly messaging “wyd” is going to get old fast. Having some healthy competition with online i-message games may be the perfect way to have some fun together while spending time apart.

Book Club for Two

If you and your partner are both book worms consider having a two person book club. Pick a book you are both interested in and then discuss chapter by chapter. You can even look online for prompts to get the ball rolling.

Take a Facetime Stroll

Getting outside is very important right now. Take care of you and your boo’s mental/physical health by taking daily Facetime walks together. Doing this together will hold each other accountable and allow for some time to chat about things going on outside of your homes.

Be Pen Pals

Go old school with your significant other by writing letters back and forth. This is a great way to give eachother something to look forward to, which will be helpful as the days start to feel more and more the same.
