Harry Styles’ New Single Has Us Impatient for His Next Album

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Akron chapter.

Standing as the world’s ‘It Boy’ for nearly a decade, Harry Styles’ career has been nothing short of a success. In the spring of 2017, the former boy bander took his first solo steps into the spotlight with his first single “Sign of the Times” followed by his self-titled album Harry Styles. The album topped the charts and his world tour sold out in seconds. Styles spent the remainder of 2017 through July of 2018 touring worldwide. After his final show of the tour, Styles signed off of social media, promising fans he would be back after taking some time off to write new music.

As the months passed, little was seen of Styles until he was ready to enter the public eye again. In May of 2019, he had the honor of co-hosting The Met Gala alongside of Lady Gaga and Serena Williams. Shortly thereafter, Rolling Stone dropped a front cover story for the superstar, in which he opened up about “sex, psychedelics, and becoming a 21st century rock star.” Most notably Styles referred to his upcoming album saying “it’s all about sex and feeling sad.” Upon the release of his new single and music video “Lights Up” on October 10, we can agree that it is lives up to Styles’ description. The new single demonstrates a whole new set of sounds, displaying the singer’s diverse range. Within a day, “Lights Up” was topping the charts worldwide, promising a bright horizon for the star’s forthcoming album.
