How To Make the Most of Going Home This Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Agnes Scott chapter.

Congratulations on completing this year of college, you should be proud! Summer is here. For some of you who are going home, that may mean this chapter of freedom, fun, and no obligations has come to a close. Don’t stress, plenty of people go home for the summer. Make the most of your time there and re-wire yourself before coming back to Agnes to tackle another year!

  1. Find work. We are college students, money is a nice thing to have. Choose something mindless to de-stress from the crazy semester you just had or choose something that interests you and could pertain to your future goals. This way you have a resumé booster and are not in a financial rut or bored out of your mind!
  2. Volunteer. You have to take time off from your college education, maybe help out with people who wish that was their biggest concern! Plus, it feels good to do things for others.
  3. Develop a passion or learn a new skill. This is the perfect down time to harness a new talent or to do something you enjoy without worrying about missing out on study time. After I burned Ramen noodles this semester, I have decided that I must learn to cook.  (For the safety of myself and others!)
  4. Family and friend time. This is an obvious one.
  5. READ. Summer is one of the few opportunities we have to do our pleasure reading, otherwise it’s course material that can be totally great but also stressful because it plays into your grades.
  6. Be outside. I pretty much know what outside looks like only due to the fact that I study in the glass hallway. Enjoy the sun, it’s healthy for you and boosts your mood!
