Dating in college can be fun and exciting for many reasons. It may be because your in a new city with new people. Maybe, for the first time you can go out on a date without your parents’ approval or stay out as late as you want without a curfew. Whatever the reason my be, take a few minutes to look at these safe dating tips before you get whisked away by the college cupid.

Tell a friend

You may be hesitant to tell your college friends your going out on a date to keep your personal life to yourself especially during the first semester when you’ve only know people for a couple months. However, it’s important to let someone know where you’re going, who you’ll be with, and what time to expect you back. As Agnes women, we’ve enjoyed privacy and responsibility and no longer have to sign in and out of our residence halls but its still a good idea to let someone know where you’re going.

Meet in public

Although seeing his super cool town house, suite, or apartment may be appealing, you should always meet in public. It decreases your chances of being in a dangerous situation and it ensure that there are people around incase anything sketchy happens.

Make your own transportation arrangements

This one is a biggy for many reasons. If you’re going to a bar or a party, you don’t want to get stranded because you’re date is drinking and can’t take you home. It also prevents your date from knowing your address if he turns out to be the stalker type…not likely but anything is possible on a first date.

Watch your drink

Even if you only sit it down for a second get a new drink, many date rape drugs are colorless, tasteless and odorless. There’s no way of knowing if someone slipped something in. When you’re dealing with drugs such as GHB and Rohypnol, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Bring a little extra cash

Though most guys pick up the tab on the first date, it’s nice to have a little extra cash for cab fare if things don’t turn out so great.Â
