Let’s face it; living in a small dorm room and having that room be your bedroom, your kitchen and your living room isn’t the most fun. Your first year can be filled with lots of fun memories but ultimately the inconvenience of dorms is overshadowed by all the fun you’ll have. That being said, there are ways to make your dorms experience a little more comfortable and smooth. There are some products that I’ve found that have made my life much easier and have added to my comfort in dorms.

1. A  mattress pad.

THE. BEST. INVESTMENT. EVER. I’m totally a bed snob and if there anything in your room that you’ll want to be top-notch, it’s the comfy-ness of your bed. Of course, any mattress topper would do, but I got a 3 inch one and anyone who has ever sat on my bed raves about its comfort.

2. Electric Kettle

This is something you’ll have to be careful with as they are generally not allowed in dorms. But you’ll still want to have one. It comes in handy for making ramen, teas, or instant oatmeal.

3. Earphones

This is self-explanatory but I’d recommend small compact earphones for everyday use. They’re more discreet than Beats and can ward off awkward situations. If you wanna be really fancy you could invest in some earpods, but I find that the regular Apple earphones are a gem.

4. Cardholder

This truly is one of the most convenient inventions. You never have to worry about not having your key card or credit cards. It all on your phone. I personally think it’s more effective than a lanyard because most of us always have our phones with us most of the time.

5. A dry erase board

Having some sort of board to write notes on is super helpful. I personally write all my events for the week on a dry erase board and it really helps to plan my weeks.

Of course, all of these things won’t be as important to everyone but I truly think these are things that I use every day that make college a little bit easier. They’re not top priority items but having these things in my life have really come in handy and I’m sure if you try them you’ll find something that will be helpful for you.
