As the semester begins to wind down, it is hard to believe that summer break is just around the corner. So, what do you plan to do with your free time? How about reading a book but for pleasure (no cramming necessary)! While some of these great reads have been on the market from a few years ago to just a few months ago, here are five superb books to add to your reading list!

Game of Thrones Series

Once HBO’s Game of Thrones final season comes to an epic close, we are bound to go through a withdrawal period. Therefore, check out George R.R. Martin’s hottest book series that turned into the hottest television series today to get your final doses of GOT (until he writes and releases the last two books, of course… but don’t worry, you still have plenty of time to catch up!)

Supermarket

Looking for a “darkly funny psychological thriller?” Well, you’re in luck! Yet another read at the top of my list (and currently at the top of The New York Times Bestseller list) is Supermarket, by Bobby Hall, also known as the rapper Logic. This book is about Flynn, a depressed writer, who takes an ordinary job in a supermarket in order to finish his novel. However, it turns out to be much more dark and sinister than he thought it would be. Read to find out, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Becoming

Michelle Obama’s book, Becoming, is a literary fist-pump to female empowerment and, well, the trials and tribulations of life! Read about how Michelle Obama got her start and all the “behind the scenes” details of life as a First Lady. Endearing, relatable, and humorous, Obama’s autobiography is worth the read.

Five Feet Apart

A novel now adapted onto the big screen, Rachael Lippincott’s Five Feet Apart is the romantic, heartbreaking novel you need in your life. Two teenagers with the same illness fall in love, but what complicates their relationship is the fact that they cannot make contact with each other. If you were a fan of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, you are bound to fall in love (and cry) all over again.

To All The Boys I Loved Before

Another YA novel recently adapted to the big screen is Jenny Han’s To All The Boys I Loved Before which is a great read to satisfy your young love cravings. But what happens when your secret love letters are stolen and sent to each of your previous crushes? The main character Lara Jean is caught in this exact situation, so, see how she survives it!

So, now that you have a few great reads in mind for the upcoming break, you’ll be able to kick back and read for pleasure (finally)!
