Queen Songs to Jam to

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Adelphi chapter.

In honor of the movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, I figured this article was perfect. For those of you who have been living under a rock, Bohemian Rhapsody is a recently released movie about the band Queen and life of rock GOD, Freddie Mercury. Freddie was a trendsetter, not afraid to be different and owned the stage.

I saw the movie the day it came out and it was everything I wanted. I highly recommend that you take the time out of your schedule or take a break from studying to go to the movies and see it. The movie inspired me to pull together my favorite Queen songs but unfortunately the list would be too long so here are just a few Queen songs to jam to this week!

1.Don’t Stop Me Now

“I’m a shooting star, leaping through the sky

Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity

I’m a racing car, passing by like Lady Godiva

I’m gonna go, go, go

There’s no stopping me”

This list is filled with songs to to jam to  but this one particularly makes you feel unstoppable! Perfect to listen to when you pump yourself up for an interview, speech or just getting ready to go out! It has a way of making you feel unstoppable!

2. Killer Queen

“She’s a Killer Queen

Gunpowder, gelatin

Dynamite with a laser beam

Guaranteed to blow your mind

Anytime”

Killer Queen is not your typical pump up song, it’s more rock and you really have to listen to the lyrics or better yet, look them up. I particularly am a big fan of the chorus.

3. You’re My Best Friend

“Ooh you’re the best friend that I ever had

I’ve been with you such a long time

You’re my sunshine and I want you to know

That my feelings are true

I really love you

Oh you’re my best friend”

Another slower jam by Queen but nonetheless a song that you can really get into and jam with….your best friend!

4. We Will Rock You

“Buddy you’re a boy make a big noise

Playin’ in the street gonna be a big man some day

You got mud on yo’ face

You big disgrace

Kickin’ your can all over the place

Singin’

We will we will rock you”

In the film, the lead guitarist, Brian May when creating the idea for this song said “I want to give the audience a song they can perform” and what can audiences do? Stomp their feet and clap their hands. This song never fails to get the audience involved in the music whether it be a filled stadium or just a few friends.

5. Somebody to Love

“Got no feel, I got no rhythm

I just keep losing my beat (you just keep losing and losing)

I’m OK, I’m alright (he’s alright, he’s alright)

I ain’t gonna face no defeat (yeah yeah)

I just gotta get out of this prison cell

One day (someday) I’m gonna be free, Lord!”

This is one of those songs that when it comes on, all of my friends and I drop everything and blast it. It is such a feel good song that has  beautiful music and wonderful lyrics.

6. Under Pressure

“It’s the terror of knowing

What this world is about

Watching some good friends

Screaming let me out

Pray tomorrow takes me higher”

This collab with David Bowie will always be a great song to put on. If you want to feel pure emotion in a song, then this is the song for you, my friend.

7. Flash

“He’s for everyone of us

Stand for everyone of us

He’ll save with a mighty hand

Every man, every woman

Every child, with a mighty flash”

Now I don’t know about you, but the first time I hear this song,  I remember is the final performance of Chazz Michael Michaels and Jimmy Macelroy in Blades of Glory but since then I have found out that this song was actually created as the theme song for the movie Flash Gordon

8. Another One Bites The Dust

“Are you ready, hey, are you ready for this?

Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?

Out of the doorway the bullets rip

To the sound of the beat

Another one bites the dust”

I absolutely adore this song and always have. I have memories of doing 5K runs during the winter with my green iPod Shuffle in hand, blasting this song as I sped past people and crossed the finish line. This song never fails to make me feel like straight fire.

9. Fat Bottomed Girls

“Hey, listen here!

Now I got mortgages on homes

I got stiffness in my bones

Ain’t no beauty queens in this locality, I tell you

Oh, but I still get my pleasure

Still got my greatest treasure

Heap big woman, you done made a big man of me”

All I am saying is that thick girls are winning my friends, and even Queen knew it back in 1978.

10. Bohemian Rhapsody

“So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye? (Yeah!)

So you think you can love me and leave me to die?

Oh, baby, can’t do this to me, baby

Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here

Nothing really matters

Anyone can see

Nothing really matters

Nothing really matters to me”

You all knew this one was coming and I could not have this list without this 6 minute pure masterpiece. Picking just the small amount of lyrics to put above was so difficult because all the lyrics are excellent. This never fails to get a crowd going and will live on forever, as does the soul and spirit of Freddie Mercury.

I can keep going on forever but 10 is just enough to give you a taste of the amazing talent that is Queen! They are perfect for car rides, workouts, getting ready to go out of just hanging around the house! Queen is classic and will forever be one of the best, if not the best, band of all time and no one will ever have the voice that Freddie Mercury had.

Any way the wind blows
