This was something I wanted to do for a while but I could never narrow down my favorite TV shows. Like all of you, I have my go-to shows, my binge watch shows, my Found-During-Covid shows, but it took a lot of thinking to really determine what my favorites of all time were. I, admittedly, watch too much TV but my biggest problem with this list was that I watch too many different kinds of shows. I watch shows that span from the 60’s until now, and range from sitcoms, to dramas, to reality TV. All things aside, I was able to narrow down my top five picks- and here’s why.
1. Golden GirlsÂ
I have watched every episode of this series at least 3-5 times. It’s one of my go-to shows that I put on in the background and laugh at every single joke. The show is probably one of the most well-written shows that has ever aired on television. For those who don’t know, this show is about four older women who live together in Miami. One of my favorite parts is how different their personalities are but they click together perfectly. The show is full of quick wit and humor, which I absolutely adore. Also, Betty White is one of the main characters and she is one of my favorite actresses of all time.Â
2. Friends
Like Golden Girls, this is another one of those shows that I’ve seen every episode of multiple times. I love to put this show on because I don’t even have to be paying attention to recite the lines along with the characters. This show is about a bunch of friends living in New York City who face the challenges of life together. What I love about this show is that it highlights the importance of your chosen family and that your friends can become your family. All of the characters are so well cast and click together in a magical way- they have so much chemistry that it’s hard to tell they’re acting!Â
3. Gilmore GirlsÂ
Although I have just discovered this series recently, this show is from two decades ago. Slowly but surely, I have started to watch more episodes and have seen most of the series. Set in a small quirky town, this show demonstrates how a town can build a community, and that all you need is someone who loves you to get you through the tough times. I love watching the relationship between the two main characters- a mother and daughter- grow, and seeing them rely on each other through good and bad. All of the supporting characters are perfectly cast and have fantastic chemistry, and their storylines are just as interesting as the main characters’.Â
4. Love, VictorÂ
This is the first show on my list that is still currently releasing new episodes. This is a Hulu show and is a spin-off TV series to the movie Love, Simon. This is a great TV show that highlights the importance of love and friendships. One of my favorite parts is that it shows the trials and tribulations of being a teenager, but also being a teen in the LGBT community. It highlights the challenges the gay characters face, the struggles of coming out, and the pressure it puts on a family when you do.Â
5. A Million Little ThingsÂ
Lastly is another series still on TV. This series is the only true “drama” on my list, but even though I can’t rewatch it over and over again, it’s still a fantastic show. It’s a very emotional show about friends who face the many challenges of life together. They are there for the triumphs, failures, and darkest moments of each other’s lives. It proves that all you need are a few close friends to help you get by, and that your friends can really become your family.Â
There were a few more series that I wanted to add as honorable mentions to the end of my list. If you have a chance, watch these too because they are also fantastic series in their own rights. The ones that didn’t quite make it on the list are: Young Sheldon, Big Bang Theory, Station 19, Sweet Magnolias, and Reba.
