Q: How does it feel to be Adelphi Queen and what was the process/requirements?

A: I am incredibly humbled and honored to have been crowned Adelphi Queen, it is an indescribable feeling! I am so lucky to have the most supportive and loving Adelphi family! This is definitely the highlight of my Adelphi journey and am excited to continue spreading my Panther Pride as the year goes on. It means so much to be recognized for all that I am involved with on campus and am excited to be able to represent our student body as the Adelphi Queen! At first there was an application and an interview. Once I found out I made it to the Homecoming Court, I had only one week to promote for students to vote over the two day ecampus election for King and Queen.

Q: What are your plans and goals after you graduate?

A: After I graduate this year, I will still be at Adelphi for one more year to earn my Masters in Adolescent Education since I am in the STEP program. I am looking forward to student teaching and hope to get a job soon after I complete graduate school! I am excited that I get to remain an Adelphi student for one more year, because I love this school so much that it is hard to imagine myself leaving just yet! I hope to still get involved in some capacity as a graduate student and still share my Panther Pride!

Q: Favorite memory of college?

A: My favorite memory of college reflects on one simple passion of mine, helping others! My freshman year I became a tour guide within the first week of school and fell in love with both the job and Adelphi a million times more than I could have ever imagined. That year I gave many tours and tried to push to the high school seniors I met how many opportunities they would get as a student here. When I was an Orientation Leader for the first time that summer, I couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear when I saw how many students walked through the residence hall doors that day for check-in as they had made the decision to attend Adelphi! Once the school year started and I became a Commuter Assistant for the first time as well, I had both some orientation students and some new students in my group. I was now able to guide and mentor these students more so than even before, helping them to find their own Adelphi home and to realize that there is so much for them to get involved with so they can benefit and learn from the community, help each other learn more about themselves, and continue to develop personal relationships! Overall, through these three positions, I enjoy seeing the growth of other students, which is my favorite memory of college hands down! It means a great deal to me because I adore being able to be there for others, just as they are to me.

Q: What activities/clubs do you participate in?

A: I am the President of the Commuter Student Organization (CSO) and am the Senior Commuter Assistant for the Commuter Assistant Program, so as you can tell I love commuters! I am also the treasurer for the Future Teachers Association (FTA). Since freshman year, I have worked for Admissions as an Admissions Ambassador and truly enjoy giving tours. I am involved in the choir on campus, have participated twice in the Alternative Winter Break Trips, was a member of the Adelphi Gives Back Month Committee, and am a tutor for the Math Department. I have been an Orientation Leader the past three summers in a row as well! I absolutelty love everything that I am involved in on campus and can’t imagine my Adelphi experience without being a part of these programs and activities because they have challenged my leadership abilities and have helped me become the person I am today.

Q: What’s your favorite place at Adelphi?

A: My favorite place on campus is the Concert Hall in the Performing Arts Center! It is gorgeous in there and I love that I am so involved with the music department even though I am not a music major or minor. I have sang many concerts in there over the past few years and it is always a rush getting on stage and singing with the choir!

Q: Do you have any hobbies?

A: As cliche as it sounds, my hobby is helping others – that’s one of the main reasons why I want to be a teacher and have a passion for all my campus involvement because my positions allow me to mentor others to eventually find their Adelphi home and learn more about themselves. Another aspect of my invovlement that goes hand in hand with helping others is always having something to do and keeping busy. No matter what position I am a part of, I take on any task with 100% effort and try my best to get the most out of everything because college is only four years of our lives, so I want to have the best experience I can while I have the opportunity to take advantage of all of Adelphi’s wonderful opportunities for students. Another hobby of mine is singing! I have been singing classical music since I was in third grade and it is something I can never live without. Being a part of the Adelphi choir is my favorite part of the week because that is when I take the chance to do something for myself and relieve my stress by singing with friends.

Q: Do you have any role models?

A: My role model in life has always been my mom! She is a true inspiration for all she does and all the people she helps. My mom is my #1 fan in everything I do and I could only hope to be half as supportive a parent for my future children. She is very compassionate, strong, and caring and I try to emulate that in all that I do through my work, clubs and activities. At Adelphi, my role model since my freshman year has been Kristen Sylvan. She is currently a graduate student studying School Psychology, and we grew very close the past few years. We were involved in many of the same activities together and I always looked up to her for being one of the most kind, well-respected and passionate leaders I know. I try to bring her enthusiasm to all of my campus involvement because she encouraged me to get involved and take advantage of all that I can at our school. Both of these women have made huge impacts on me as a person and can’t imagine my Adelphi journey without them!

Congrats to our Adelphi Queen, Lauren!!! She is such an incredible person and it was so amazing to interview my Orientation Leader…especially for Campus Celebrity and Adelphi Queen!

Hi I'm Liz!! I'm currently a sophomore at Adelphi University and I study communications. I strive to become a journalist or a news reporter someday. Besides being a contributor for HerCampus and studying communications, I have a passion for martial arts and criminal justice. I also love babysitting so I obviously love kids and something I may also do is become a teacher. One fun fact about me is that  I have been studying Ju Jitsu for the past 12 or 13 years and I am currently a second degree brown belt.
