Kiss or Diss: Spring Fashion

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Adelphi chapter.

The heaps of snow outside have melted (it’s about time), and the days are getting longer (it’s still light when I get out of my 7PM class!); we all know that spring is finally here. After spending months bundled up in thick winter coats and boots, I know you fellow collegiates are just as excited as I am to show some arms, legs, and toes! Well, before you rush to the mall to stock up on the all latest spring trends, keep in mind what to kiss and what will get you dissed.

1. Short overalls: kiss

Paired with a crop top, short overalls can create a cute and flirty outfit without much effort. They’re a great balance between boyish and feminine.

2. Long overalls: diss

Long overalls, on the other hand, aren’t so springtime appropriate. Denim is already a constricting fabric, let alone in an overall-form. Save the overalls for your little brother or sister.

3. Mixing neutral patterns: kiss

When mixing patterns, stick to similar color schemes or neutral colors/patterns. It’ll create a bold look without drawing unwanted attention.

4. Mixing patterns- the wrong way: diss

Look at the above outfits and you’ll understand where I’m coming from.

5. Florals: kiss

Nothing says springtime better than a good floral print. This classic pattern is girly and never goes out of style.

6. Gingham: diss

I’m all for a gingham-printed button-down shirt but when you take gingham and turn it into a romper or a dress, it can be a little overboard and too Wizard of Oz-esque.

7. Platform heels: kiss

As painful as they may be, when are heels not in style?

8. Platform slip-ons: diss

Leave your dad’s old dancing shoes from the disco-era in the attic.

9. Body chains: kiss

Body chains are an unexpected, edgy accessory that can turn any basic top into a head-turner.

10. Bandeaus as tops: diss

This trend is hot for a special occasion like a beach day or a music festival, but for everyday wear, it’s a little inappropriate. Bandeaus are intended to be worn underneath shirts. You wouldn’t wear your thong as pants, now would you?

I hope you girls got some fashion inspiration and are ready to hit the stores for their newest spring arrivals! Afterall, what’s a better way to celebrate this warm weather?

Hey everyone! I'm Juls (yes, short for Julie), and I'm a junior biology major with a double minor in chemistry and mathematics at Adelphi University. I'm also a writer and the head of the editorial team for Her Campus Adelphi. I've been running for 6 years and am a (beginner) Bikram yoga junkie, so I guess you can say I'm also a fitness enthusiast. If I'm not out for a run or in the yoga studio, you can catch me volunteering at my local hospital, laughing with my friends while out for coffee, or tuning in for the latest episode of Dancing With the Stars. Feel free to say hi if you see me around; I'm most likely that girl with a pair of sunglasses on top of her head even if it's cloudy outside.
