How to Dress for the In-Between Weather

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Adelphi chapter.

Is it winter? Is it spring? Why is it -25 degrees in the morning, but 78 degrees by noon? Okay maybe that last one was a bit exaggerated, but  I know you know what we’re talking about. We are currently in a transitional period.  We’re not sure if we should ditch the coat and dress for spring, or keept the hat and gloves and dress for winter.

Fear not collegiettes, here are some tips to help you deal with mother nature’s mood swings.

Layers are your best friend

Make use of that nice plaid scarf and cardigan while you still can!  Use layers that can be taken off throughout the day.  In the morning you’re going to want your whole winter wardrobe that you can take off throughout the course of the day.  Choose wisely! In the outfit above, we see a mixture of spring and winter.  The dress shouts spring, but it’s still warm by adding the blanket scarf and booties.  If it’s not warm enough for you, add a cute cardi or some nude tights!

Spring Outerwear

Don’t forget that spring is still a chilly season.  People tend to forget that there is outerwear made just for spring.  Use them! The jackets come in bright colors so you’re warm, but still look like spring.  We suggest looking for jackets with hoods because you never know when the clouds will decide to cry.  If the morning is too chilly for a light spring jacket, add a cardigan underneath.  You can always take it off later!

Booties Over Boots

Some of us aren’t ready to say goodbye to boots.  Let’s comprise shall we? Skip the boots that reach up to your knee and opt for booties instead.  They’ll keep your feet warm during the cold mornings, but won’t roast your legs during the warm afternoons.  If you’re feeling exta spring, you can choose peep toe booties.  Show off that pedicure girl!

Bring Out The Dresses

Spring means cute dresses.  We can’t let the cold mornings stop us from that! A lot of dresses are sleeveless but that doesn’t mean we can’t wear them.  Make use of cardigans.  Find a cute one that matches the dress.  If you don’t want a cardigan covering up even the slightest bit of the dress, wear sleeves! I know it sounds pretty silly, but you can make it work if you really want.  Just look at the photo above.  It looks even more chic with the sleeves!

We hope this helped you collegiettes! Don’t worry because we’re almost out of this transitional period.  If you live in places like California we’re just a little jealous, but soon we won’t have to worry about those cold mornings!
