Bar Tips Every 21-Year-Old Should Know

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Adelphi chapter.

One of the most exciting things about turning 21 is that you are finally legal. You’re finally old enough to drink, buy cigarettes and even gamble. However, with your newly found age, comes great responsibility. Odds are, that if you are just turning 21, you are fairly new to drinking out, at least that’s the way it should be. But with this new privilege, you have to learn your limit.

Going out to bars with your friends might be a cool, new experience for you. However, be warned about the creepy old men you may encounter at bars. They’re ruthless, tend to be annoying and do not understand the word, “no.” Old men ruin the bar experience, so watch out for them.

Not only do you have to watch out for old men, but also for bar fights. When people get too drunk, they may say or do things that offend the other people at the bar. When this happens, bar fights break out. This is usually your cue to leave if things get too violent. After there is a bar fight, there is often a change in tone of the place. Now, this can either make or break your night. So it’s important to know when to leave if events like that happen.

Lastly, when you say it’s your last drink, actually mean it. Keep in mind that you are in a public area and you don’t know who’s around watching waiting to make a move on an intoxicated girl. While this may sound scary, don’t let it keep you from going out and having fun with your friends. The important thing to remember is to just be responsible about how much you drink.

Becoming 21 can be fun, but it also means that you just have to become more responsible. If you do go out drinking with friends, you have to have the self control to say no and to be aware of your surroundings.
