HC Profile: Niko Johansson

Age: 21

Degree: Biological Sciences

Hometown: Turku, Finland

This week I took the time to interview my beloved fellow Finn, Niko! Time for all of you to meet this dazzling persona as well!

HC: Hello Niko! Let’s start off with a simple question: how is third year treating you so far?

NJ: Well so far so good! I’m quite a nerd so I’m more than enjoying delving deeper into the details of my degree subject!

HC: That sounds like the right way to do it though! On another note, nothing seems more confusing than your snapchats of molecules and anything biology related, especially to a law student like myself. What made you interested in the subject?

NJ: I’ve always been fascinated by the world around us. In school back home I got really into science, and decided for good that I’m going to make myself a career in research. In my mind, that is my way to best aid humankind to face the challenges of the future. After a massive internal battle, I decided to go for biology instead of my initial choice, theoretical physics.

HC: Sounds like you’ve made an informed decision there, can’t wait to see your research in the future. You’re also in the Circus Society, is this something that you did before uni or was it one of those new exciting experiences we promised our mom we’d try? What made you join?

NJ: I used to practice martial arts before I moved to Aberdeen, but here decided to try something completely different. I found the Circus Society, attended my first class in acrobatics and I was instantly addicted. Nowadays I sometimes go to juggling with the society, but my main focus is on aerial silks at Inverted circus & pole fitness studio.

HC: Is Circus something you’d recommend for others – even if they’ve never done it before?

NJ: ABSOLUTELY! I guarantee it’s something you definitely need to try before you die. No previous experience needed – that will come with time! Google Circus Society or Inverted Aberdeen (No shame in this cheeky little promo here!)

HC: Being from Finland, there is a lot of differences to Scotland. What do you miss most from back home?

NJ: I think I’ll have to say my friends. I come from a rather tight group of friends who I have known since ages ago, so I guess I miss hanging out with people who I grew up with. I also have a boyfriend back home who I miss deeply.

Cats or dogs? Cats definitely

Tea or coffee? Tea definitely

Skiing or a beach holiday? Tough one, would have to say the beach

Clubbing or a few drinks at a pub? Clubbing!!!

Thank you for letting us get a glimpse into yourself and hope third year will continue to be good for you!
