‘You look beautiful, when you smile!’ No, that wasn’t a chat-up line, but an honest compliment made by a Chinese student who did an exchange here at the University of Aberdeen last semester. I could feel that these weren’t empty words to impress me, because it was the truth. Already as a child, many people told me that they like my smile. In addition, I never try to resist the temptation to laugh, and sometimes people become confused when they see me laughing or smiling. I find many things funny and having humour makes certain things in life easier. I think my teeth are one of the things I like the most about myself. But without undergoing the process of wearing different braces and going regularly to the dentist, my teeth wouldn’t be that straight and healthy-looking as they are now. There are many bleaching methods that dentists offer, but with HC’s tips you can save some money. So here are the golden rules for having good teeth collegiettes:
1. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, or even better, after each meal.
2. Use floss at least in the evening. My dentist even recommended to floss my teeth after lunch.
3. An apple a day, keeps the doctor away! This truth doesn’t just apply to your body, but also to your teeth. The malic acid of the apple makes your teeth much whiter. So bite the bullet and the apple too!
4. Avoid smoking, drinking coffee, black tea and red wine. They can make your teeth discoloured.
5. Don’t eat too many sweets in order to avoid caries which leads to cavities.
6. Use a good toothpaste.
7. Change your toothbrush every eight weeks. After an illness such as the flu, you should change it immediately.
8. Chew sugar-free chewing gum.
9. Natural yogurt is helpful when you have bad breath, but also flossing your teeth regularly can remove leftovers between the teeth and tartar.
10. Go to your dentist twice a year for a check-up and to get your teeth professionally cleaned.
