Obama Releases First Statement Since Leaving Office & It’s About the Immigration Ban

Although Obama has only been out of office for about two weeks, it feels like years since he has released a statement of hope. But tonight, we can say that that is not the case.

In his first statement since Trump became President, Kevin Lewis, Obama’s spokesperson, says that the former President is “heartened by the level of engagement taking place in communities around the country” and that he stands by all protesting. “Citizens exercising their Constitutional right to assemble, organize, and have their voices heard by their elected officials is exactly what we expect to see when American values are at stake,” Lewis writes.

Although the statement does not specifically mention Trump’s immigration ban, Lewis continues by saying that “with regard to comparisons to President Obama’s foreign policy decisions, as we’ve heard before, the president fundamentally disagrees with the notion of discriminating against individuals because of their faith or religion,” and that all we can do is continue to voice our opinions.

So you know what? That is exactly what we are going to do.
