Career development and personal growth are two things that are super important to all of us aspiring career women. Monica, a former dbAchieve intern and current Graduate Analyst with Deutsche Bank in New York, tells us how she has been exposed to new challenges and ways of thinking, shaping her early career and setting her on the path to achieving her career goals.

At Deutsche Bank, they make it a priority to give all their interns the opportunity to try different roles and take on new responsibilities, which is how Monica discovered her passion for Global Transaction Banking.

What drew you to your current department?

I was drawn to Global Transaction Banking because of the international element. In my role within the Structured Trade and Export Finance team, I am exposed to events happening around the world and their impact on our clients, whether that be financing international trade relationships for our corporate clients or infrastructure development projects with our sovereign clients. All of this impacts real people by providing them with an essential benefit—my work feels tangible.

How has being a Graduate Analyst at Deutsche Bank benefit your career?

My managers care about my success and where I see myself being. They had high expectations and gave me the same level of work as everybody else on my team even during my internships. It was a great chance to dive straight in and learn as much as possible while expanding my skill set.

Did the exposure to different roles and responsibilities help you to pursue your career goals?

International exposure, such as collaborating with colleagues around the globe or learning about new markets, is great for building a diverse mindset, which then has a positive impact on your clients and society. When you see an opportunity that interests you, it just comes down to demonstrating your work ethic and raising your hand for the right ones when they arise.
