The Most Important Goals to Set for 2021, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

2020 is finally over and I think we can all agree: it wasn’t really our best year.

We certainly all learned what the expression “hindsight is 20/20” really means. But let’s put 2020 behind us and start off on a new (and hopefully better) foot. Many people try to make New Year’s resolutions but, if we’re being honest, those resolutions sometimes fail to stick. Instead, try setting goals that will help you be your best self in this new year.

Don’t be afraid to give yourself deadlines when setting them, either! Personally, I like to give myself monthly goals so I can accomplish a new thing each month and work on becoming my best self quicker. For example, my goal for January has been to work out at least three days a week, which I have accomplished so far. So, I thought it would be fun to take the zodiac signs and give you a goal based on your sign’s personality traits. I also added in ways that you can reach your goal if you want to try it out.

Aries: Look to the future

Aries, you oftentimes have an issue with envisioning your future. This could become a bigger problem if you have an S.O. you’re serious with or are trying to create a five-year plan with employers. I know the future is scary because it’s so unknown, but you need to get yourself together, Aries! This is a big goal that you could make your biggest strength using your confidence, enthusiasm, and passion. Start by looking one year ahead, and keep moving forward from there. In time, you can create a long-term plan that you can look forward to.

Taurus: Embrace change

Change is scary, Taurus, I know. But change is also a necessary part of life! Finding your S.O., buying a home, owning your first car, and even starting your career are all great examples of positive change. With your responsible attitude, you could look at these changes as adding a little more responsibility in your life. Finding an S.O. is a big responsibility, as you have to pour time and energy into the relationship; you’re 50 percent to the other person’s 50. Starting your career is a huge responsibility as well, since you must make sure you can show up on time whenever you’re scheduled, attend meetings, grow your interpersonal communication skills, and so on. If you start looking at change as a positive thing, and accept a little more responsibility in your life, you can reach this goal, no problem.

Gemini: Embrace a routine

Routines are tough, but it’s something you can definitely handle, Gemini. I know they can feel extremely repetitive, but they’re a great tool when it comes to learning how to be successful. Since you’re a sign that’s adaptable and able to learn quickly, you can create an intelligent routine and check everything off your to-do list. Start out small by planning out your days in the morning!

Cancer: Learn to be a little more open

As a fellow Cancer, I think I speak for all of us when I say we tend to have a lot of trouble opening up to people. We want others to tell us their deepest darkest secrets, but we can’t even talk about our deepest darkest secrets ourselves. In 2021, we Cancers need to learn to be a little more open with people. Since the catastrophe that was 2020, I can say I’ve learned to be a little more open and it’s been a great way to let my feelings and emotions out. Granted, I still struggle and bottle some things up, but compared to how I used to be I’m definitely a lot more willing to share about my life with others.

Being more open will also help our emotional side. Us Cancers need to realize that as sympathetic as we are to others, we also have to be sympathetic to ourselves. Getting whatever you need to get off your chest is truly the best form of self care. Start doing this by thinking of the closest friend you have, someone you’ve shared memories and stories with. Once you think of this person, open up to them and tell them all about how you feel today. Trust me when I say it takes small steps to build up to this goal, but once you get there you’ll feel a lot better.

Leo: Spend your money a little more wisely

Leo, you have a lot of positive attributes that make you a pretty good zodiac sign. But let’s be honest; your one weakness is treating yourself a little too much. So, for the year 2021, you should definitely focus less on treating yourself and more on saving up for your future. With your leadership skills, you can definitely guide yourself towards the right track to saving your money and/or spending it a little more responsibly. Think of your money as a team and you as its leader. The goal of your team is to acquire more members (aka more money). Set a goal each month of how much you want to save.

If you need any help with reaching this goal number, you can even download a budget app to keep up with your saving. The budget app I use is Mint, and you can use it to check your bank account, how much money you’ve saved, and even set budgets for yourself. It’s helped me save a lot since I’ve downloaded it.

Virgo: Learn to ask for help

Virgo, let’s be honest, you can’t be so stubborn. This is why, in 2021, you should learn how to ask for help more often. I know, you probably don’t want to seem like you can’t do something on your own, since you are the jack of all trades among the zodiac. But asking for help isn’t the worst thing in the world. If anything, it prevents you from making a huge mistake. You’re kind, hardworking, analytical, and practical. So, use your practicality to knock yourself in the head and say, hey, maybe I need some help. If you use your analytical skills, you can see that by asking for help you’ll actually get your task done quicker without making a lot of mistakes.

Start asking for help by deciding when a good time to ask questions would be. Also, it’s important to remember to be kind when asking for help and to not disagree with your coworker, S.O., friends or anyone else you may associate with. You’ll soon see that you get better results by doing this versus always being independent. Always remember, Virgo: there are no stupid questions.

Libra: Be confrontational when you need to be

Honestly, you Libras are way too diplomatic. Don’t get me wrong, diplomacy is a great quality to have, but I think you need to learn how to be confrontational in certain situations. Like, if a friend does something that annoys you, or you don’t agree with something your S.O. said, you should confront them about it. You’re a fair-minded sign and you should remember that your symbol is the scale. While you should still continue to be diplomatic, you should also be fair to yourself by being confrontational when it’s necessary.

Start by presenting your problem to an outside party to see what they think. If you can, run over a few possible conversations and make the points you want to get across to the other party and then finally present that to them. In time, Libra, I’m confident you can be diplomatic and stand up for yourself, too.

Scorpio: Learn to trust people

Scorpio, you need to learn how to trust people a little more this year. Yeah, you’re a true friend and are passionate about your relationships with people, but in order to make those friendships last, you need to learn how to trust them. One thing you can do to try and improve this is not overthink. I know it can be super tough (I tend to overthink a lot too), but you have to trust what your friends say. If you truly value your relationships and the people you know, you ought to trust them a little more. If they end up breaking your trust, remember that’s on them. Once you learn how to do this, your relationships will improve and flourish.

Sagittarius: Promise a little less

Sag, we know you like to be honest, and that you’re extremely imaginative, but you need to make big promises less. Think about it — if you’re in a work meeting and you promise your boss the world and end up not accomplishing that, how does that reflect back on you? Or, if you promise the world and then spend all your time fulfilling your promise in one sitting, you can feel  extremely stressed out afterwards. So, this year you should try and promise what you can accomplish and nothing more.

Be idealistic about the work you can do. Let’s put it this way: if you have two people (one being you, Sag) and a hundred boxes, you can’t promise to lift 75 or all 100 boxes. You have someone else who can help you lift 50; you lift 50 and they lift 50. You have to be generous to yourself and not take on too much work. Make time for self care or any other activities you may want to do! The best way to accomplish this goal is to analyze what is given to you and to think: let me just finish this task and once I’ve completed it, I can see if I can do more to help out. This goal will help lift a couple weights off your shoulders.

Capricorn: Stop expecting the worst

Cap, you gotta look on the bright side sometimes. Your hardworking tendencies always make you think the worst is going to happen. And after 2020, you’re probably expecting an absolute trainwreck out of 2021. But you need to stop and realize that good things do happen and the worst case scenario doesn’t happen every single day! You’re a responsible sign with a lot of self-control, so take responsibility for the negativity you feel and train yourself to think a little more positively. The first step you can take to stop expecting the worst is journaling about the good things that happen throughout your days. Then, on a day where you’re thinking negatively, take out your journal, read about the good things, and remember that today won’t be so bad after all.

Aquarius: Embrace emotional connections

Aquarius, you’re a sign that’s always perceived as out-there and creative, which is why you might have trouble embracing emotional connections. Emotional connections are probably some of the best connections to have in your life, especially with friends or your S.O., so you should focus on connecting more with them this year. You’re a humanitarian, so you obviously care about people and their emotions. Aquarius, you’re also extremely progressive. So I know you can progress towards being more open to emotionally deep relationships. One of the best ways to accomplish this goal is be more emotionally open and available with others in your life. Tell them about how you feel on a day-to-day basis, and don’t bottle it all in.

Pisces: Leave the past behind

You’re a water sign, Pisces, and water signs tend to be emotional. That’s why this year, you should focus on letting go of your past. The past is like a weight that you carry with you everywhere, and the more you hold on to it the heavier it gets. I’m a Cancer and I used to hold onto the past a lot, Pisces. So listen to me when I say you need to focus on letting go and moving on. Because when I let go and moved on, it helped me become a much better person. So, you should focus on being wise and compassionate to yourself by letting the past go.

The best first step to take here is to accept that your past is in the past  and that you cannot do anything about it. If you need better symbolism of what letting go means, write down any and all experiences you don’t want to keep carrying with you into 2021 on paper. Read each one to yourself, allow yourself to remember them, and then throw them into a fire and allow them to burn. You’ll feel so much better after this release and you’ll be able to become your best self, Pisces.

Whether you follow through on the goal I gave your zodiac sign, another zodiac’s goal, or none of these at all, I encourage you to set goals for yourself in this new year. These goals will help you improve, open up, and become a better you. Whatever you do, I hope this is the year where you can become your best self.
