Halloween can look a little different for each of us. For some of us, it’s a night of costumes and cheer with our favorite people, out on the town or at a friend’s home. For others, it might be the last chance to grab a pumpkin to carve or explore a haunted attraction for the season. And for some, it can look as cozy as a spooky movie marathon indoors alongside homemade Halloween treats.Â
Regardless of how you’ll be spending the night — and possibly the weekend — one Halloween icon remains ubiquitous: the image of a hooded skeleton against a bright orange backdrop, next to bold, yellow typography spelling out the name of everyone’s one-stop shop for Halloween costumes. Â
Spirit Halloween, the largest Halloween retailer in the U.S., is something of a seasonal staple, carrying everything from costume essentials to seasonal jewelry to large-scale animatronics. Its annual appearance in otherwise vacant commercial storefronts, typically beginning around August, is widely understood to mark the arrival of spooky season.Â
But the impending disappearance of those beloved stores is one of the greatest horror stories for Halloween lovers. So, how long will Spirit Halloween stick around this year?
When it comes to its online storefront, Spirit Halloween continues to sell products throughout the year, so die-hard Halloween fans don’t need to worry about the 10 months between now and when the physical stores reopen to get their spooky-season fix.Â
As for its physical locations, there’s no universal closing date. But many locations plan to shutter for the season on Nov. 2, leaving shoppers a little extra time through the weekend to make any last-minute costume purchases. Before you rush to your nearest one, though, be sure to double-check the company’s Store Locator to confirm its hours and make sure it’s still open.
Plus, while you’re there, you might want to check out the store’s sweepstakes with Butterfinger, running through Nov. 1. By providing your email with a purchase, or by submitting an entry without one, eligible participants can enter a drawing for a $15,000 cash prize.Â
Historically, Spirit Halloween has also hosted clearance sales after Halloween wraps up, with discounts ranging from 25-50% off in-store and up to 70% online. While exact deals for this year haven’t been confirmed, it might be a good idea to start thinking up what your costume could look like next year — or alternatively, begin shopping for your wardrobe for other beloved costumed events, like franchise conventions, cosplay gatherings, and renaissance fairs.Â
After all, Halloween may only be one night out of the year, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t 364 other days of the year to get dressed up for fun.
