Last night, a message came to me in a dream.
After drifting off to sleep somewhere around 2:30 a.m., I was transported to an auditorium in a strange place where there were no seats for the audience. I was about to go on stage, but I didn’t have my costume and I didn’t know the dance (a dream I have all too often). Then, Amber and Maggie, two former teammates, told me that I had missed too many rehearsals to perform and that I had been replaced.
I don’t remember what happened next, but I ended up at a Fridays with Alex, Nicki, Lexi and Maria. I was literally stuffing my face with the fudgiest chocolate cake I’ve ever seen. It was larger than my head and I finished the whole thing in like three bites. Then came an entire plate of sugar cookies and some sort of vanilla cake — ate it all. And then they brought out a birthday cake, lit the candles and I don’t even think I waited to blow them out — I just downed the entire cake, guilt free.
I had turned into that kid from Matilda (c’mon Bruce!) and I just couldn’t stop eating cake. When I woke up, I was slightly horrified, slightly confused and mostly hungry. I reflected on my strange dream and realized I was really missing two things: Dance and dessert.
I’ve already talked about my plan to start dancing again, but I haven’t addressed this issue of dessert. Even though the Jump Start Diet includes dessert, I’ve been avoiding it. And now my sweet tooth is begging for some attention. So tonight, I plan on making a Jumpstart Diet recipe that looks especially delicious.
Maple Syrup Pear: Place a quartered pear (cored and stemmed) in a nonstick baking dish. Top with 1 tbsp maple syrup, 1 tbsp chopped walnuts, a dash of cinnamon. Bake at 350° until tender, 25 to 30 minutes. 198 calories, 5 g fat (0 g saturated), 40 g carbs, 6 g fiber, 2 g protein
I can’t wait to try out this dish! Let me know if there are any other healthy desserts that you think I should try! @SamGetsHealthy
