Calling all Chipotle menu hackers! The menu item that you have been waiting for is finally here — but not for too long. In case you missed it, the beloved Mexican food chain is launching a limited-time menu item, the Chili Lime Chips, and if you’re a fan of DIY fast food trends, you’ll know this release has been a long time coming.
In recent years, this food hack has skyrocketed in popularity: guests using packaged, seasoned chips to add their own personal touch on Chipotle meals — using chips to scoop up their burrito fillings, dumping the contents of their bowls into chip bags, you name it. According to a press release from Chipotle, mentions of seasoned chips combined with Chipotle entrees have risen 1,500% across social media platforms, as well as 96 million engagement on Instagram and TikTok.
And now, it’s safe to say that Chipotle has caught onto this behavior, and is responding to it by giving the people what they want by bringing its own Chili Lime Chips to its menu. The chips will be available starting Sept. 4, and even sooner if you’re an insider: Chipotle Rewards members can get early access to the Chili Lime Chips starting Aug. 31!
But that’s not the only exciting menu addition coming to Chipotle. Pollo Asado, which first launched on Chipotle menus in 2022, will return for a limited time with a new recipe of freshly grilled adobo chicken seasoned with garlic, Mexican spices, and hand-cut cilantro.
If you want to experience eating both menu newcomers together, Nevielle Panthaky, Senior Vice President of Culinary at Chipotle, recommends ordering Pollo Asado with white rice, black beans, roasted chili-corn salsa, guac, and finally the Chili Lime Chips for an extra layer of crunch and zest. “With this new recipe, we wanted to bring more brightness and dimension to Pollo Asado while preserving its savory, smoky flavor,” Panthaky said in a press release about the new menu items. “The citrus finish cuts through the smoky notes of the chicken and naturally complements the tangy, spiced seasoning of our Chili Lime Chips.”
From Aug. 31 to Sept. 13, Pollo Asado will be available to all guests in both the U.S. and Canada. Chipotle is also offering free delivery on Pollo Asado orders through the Chipotle app, so fans can really celebrate the return of this beloved item.
