THE HC TEAM WEIGHS IN: Why We Love Our Moms

Happy Mother’s Day! The collegiettes at Her Campus want to wish their moms the best and share with the world why they love the ladies who raised them so much. So read on mothers and daughters — and have a wonderful day!

I love my mom because she makes anything and everything possible. She’s helped me pursue everything I’ve gone after, and supported me the entire time. I always know I can count on and depend on her whenever I need an extra boost.
– Sydney Nolan, Contributing Writer, University of Missouri: Columbia

I was diagnosed with a rare form of stomach cancer in February 2012. I live across the state from my mom and she can’t always be there for me although she wishes she could. She decided that instead of feeling helpless hours away, she formed a group called, “Andrea’s Angels” to put on fundraisers to help me with medical bills since I cannot work due to chemoradiation right now. There has been an overwhelming amount of support from the community already and we are just now doing the second fundraiser. It’s an important task my mom has taken on and I know it can be draining, but she is willing to do anything to help me. My mom is a very important woman in my life.
– Andrea Opalewski, Branch Manager, Western Michigan University

I love my mom because she supports me even when I take risks. It’s one thing to have support when you make a safe or easy decision, but when you take a risk and challenge yourself, your support system is sometimes nowhere to be found. No matter if I am right or wrong, I know that my mom is on my side. That is not to say that she doesn’t tell me her opinion and give me advice, but that I know, no matter what, I will have her love and support.
– Michelle King, Editor-at-Large, Emerson College

I love my mom because she is hilarious, sweet, open minded, generous and kind. She’s known for her consistently positive attitude and gentle nature. I’m proud to be her daughter and have a relationship with my mom that lets me be exactly who I am.
– Kayla Riley, Contributing Writer, University of Maine

My mom and I have an incredibly close relationship. She’s been there for me through everything, big or small. She always takes time to truly listen to me, and when I need to hear a voice of reason or just to hear someone say that I’m making them proud, my mom does that. She inspires me everyday to be all I can be; to be a strong, independent woman with no boundaries. My mother keeps me motivated, positive and reminds me to look a life with a sense of humor and of course always smile.
– Deirdre Cusack, Campus Correspondent, University of Massachusetts: Amherst

My mom is my hero. She does everything and it seems to be effortless. Everything is always done gracefully. We can be silly together and joke around but I also know I can come to her with anything. She understands me and gives genuine advice. If I become even half of the wonderful woman she is, I will be amazed. I admire and respect her tremendously. I value our friendship and I know that I am an extremely blessed daughter.
– Kathleen Kalinsky, Social Media, James Madison University

Momma Elizarraraz has been there for me through rain and shine, as her first born and her only daughter she has made sure to guide me in a good path full of love, friendship, and ambition. Not only that, but momma and I share the same birthday! October 12th is a celebratory day in the Elizarraraz household. :-)

Everything. Seriously. But particularly the fact that she’s the one person in this world that I know will always be in my corner. She gives me my sanity and keeps me grounded. And even if she’s telling me things I don’t want to hear, she’s always (about 99.9% of the time) right. I love the person that she is and I love the person that she’s helped me become. Simple as that.
-Mariah Craddick, Campus Correspondent, Columbia College Chicago

I love my mom because she has been very supportive of me ever since I left for college. I can call her when I need to rant about Calculus, and she will always say the one thing that can make me feel better. She is my number one fan, and her confidence in me gives me the courage to have confidence in myself.
Alex Court, Branch Manager, The College of William and Mary

My mom just went back to graduate school after spending almost 22 years as a stay at home mom!! I love that she was able to be home with my brother and I while we were young, but I also have so much respect for the fact that she has decided to go back to school after such a long absence — that takes guts!
– Jenni Whalen, Editorial Intern, Bucknell University

I love my mom because she is my biggest inspiration! My mom has always been a full-fledged career women, and she is the reason that I am so motivated today. She taught me to never say no, to always persevere, and not to let anyone get in the way of my work ethics or dreams. Plus, she is the hottest mom that I know! ;)
– Elizabeth Wagmeister, Campus Correspondent, UCSB

My mother has been my #1 supporter through everything! She is always there for me and encourages me through anything I choose to pursue. Without her I would not be the person I am today, and I want her to know she is my absolute hero. I love you mom!
– Devon Correll, Campus Correspondent, Bryant University

My mom would literally do anything and everything for me — from picking me up at four in the morning from a party 40 minutes from home, to summarizing a class reading for me when I’m overwhelmed with other schoolwork. I know I can call on her for anything and she’ll do whatever she can to help me out.
Kristen Pye, Contributing Writer, McGill University

My mom has always been my best friend. We love to have fun whether it’s sale shopping, going to lunch, or just teasing each other. My roommate has said before that we act more like sisters than mother and daughter, and I count myself really lucky that we’re so close in that way!
– Alexandra Churchill, Editorial Intern, University of New Hampshire

I love my Mom! She’s one of the most amazing people I have ever had the privilege to know. She’s an incredibly strong individual who, regardless of situation, holds our family together and keeps us grounded. She’s the glue that binds us all together.
– Christina Troy, Design Associate, Merrimack College Alum

I love my mom because she puts up with all of my craziness and tries to help me solve all of my problems. I also love that we sing and dance to “Call Me Maybe” during car rides.
– Erica Avesian, Contributing Writer, University of Michigan
